Oh man American liberals are another species aren't they. I'm remembering why I unfollowed a ton of american comedians on twitter during the last election.

But of course, this was brilliant https://twitter.com/DAVID_LYNCH/status/714871987043078144

It's going to be a lot of fun watching centrists trying to hide their own antisemitism again, too. Last time around they were disgustingly antisemitic, and now they've been throwing that accusation around for political gain...

Most people are bad at hiding their duplicity, and these people have it in heaps.

Gotta say, I saw a lot of bullshit about "Bernie bros" from the Hillary crowd, but never any anti-Semitism. Even the right-wingers were more concerned about Communists coming to steal their toothbrushes under Chairman Sanders than the fact that he was Jewish. I saw a couple of thinkpieces saying it might be an issue for him, but it didn't come up much in online discussion/arguments, as far as I could see.

Twed

I mean Twitter stuff. Which is of course never reported in the MSM, because what narrative does it fit?

"Fake Jew" is what I remember the most, and there are still some breadcrumbs uncovering all of that: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sanders%20%22fake%20jew%22

No surprises that this search doesn't trawl up any CNN think-pieces on the subject.

I remember all of this shit, just a constant stream of unacceptable standards and dystopian-fiction media shenanigans, which is why I am 100% refusing to let things slide this time around.

Just one of Hillary's main campaign guys. Nothing to see here.

First tweet here is from a prominent Bernie critic on Twitter.

Kamala isn't even popular with her own dad: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/430883-kamala-harris-criticized-by-jamaican-father-over-marijuana-joke

Quotewish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty

She's called Kamala, Mr. Harris.

Full quote:

Quote"My dear departed grandmothers(whose extraordinary legacy I described in a recent essay on this website), as well as my deceased parents , must be turning in their grave right now to see their family's name, reputation and proud Jamaican identity being connected, in any way, jokingly or not with the fraudulent stereotype of a pot-smoking joy seeker and in the pursuit of identity politics. Speaking for myself and my immediate Jamaican family, we wish to categorically dissociate ourselves from this travesty."

That is fucking brutal.

Quote"We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities," Harris said in the statement.
Partly because of you, Harris.

That's nice in a way, it means they're feel threatened.

Lib media's dictate on Bernie seems to be "fake concern". Ask poisoned little questions about him. Give the impression that you're just fine with him running, but plant that little seed of doubt.

"It's great that Sanders is running. But it'll be so hard for him! You know who likes Bernie? Donald Trump. He's going to have a hard time up against all the candidates that have the same progressive policies as him, such as <this list of conservatives, half of whom have disavowed socialism in the past week>. Bernie isn't even a Democrat, is he? This has been CNN with the news, have a nice day."

This as much of a tedious non-story as any of the Horse Race reporting the corporate media will be doing shortly on Sanders.

Twed

Sure, it's gossip, but you have to admit it's notable that her own father said that unsolicited. It's really incredibly harsh.

Disagree that it's the same as the MSM's damning of Bernie. This is reporting on something that happened, and isn't necessarily unfavourable towards Kamala. Not the same thing as the constant drip-feed of honest concern towards Sanders.

Urinal Cake

Unless you're Jamaican/Carribbean or looking to defend/hate Harris this isn't an issue. Although it does highlight she came from a relatively privileged family of upper-middle class academic immigrants.

Criticisms of Sanders are often to do with his woman problem (50% of pop.), black problem (10%), socialist agenda and age. The first two designed to cast doubt on his social progressiveness while the last two his mainstream appeal.

That Harris story makes me cringe. Her dad's reaction is over the top in a way that doesn't really seem warranted. It's also not really news, in the same way that the stuff about Meghan Markle's dad isn't really news either. I have my problems with Harris as a candidate, but as someone who has a fraught relationship with my own dad, it just makes me feel bad for her that he has tried to publicly humiliate her just because she made some offhand (albeit possibly poorly judged) flippant comment during a media appearance.

The bottom one is fair enough but it's a massive fucking stretch to call the top one anti-Semitic.

Is that screenshot real?!

Twed

It was a debate question, I think. That's a good way to get away with stuff like that. I remember another "question" during one of the debates which was just some archive footage of Bernie saying mildly positive things about Castro or something.

Debra Messing's current comedic efforts outshine make up for all of her previous work

EOLAN

Anyone else picking up some obvious anti-Semitism from that above remark. Anyway; wasn't Jesus predestined to be crucified to save us from our sins. Always see Judas as an integral part of the story and without him humanity wouldn't have been saved and redeemed by Christ's glorious rising - from a Christian viewpoint.
Not sure if the resurrection of an old man collapsing on his donkey in the dessert at 65 would have made him as compelling a saviour. And wonder what symbol we would be wearing around our necks.

Cuellar

Can't be, Jesus was KING of the Jews!

e.g...
"I would trade three of you for a bottle of water,"

Its not a bad line, but damn you don't want to be on the end of that.

Ignoring all that, she and Brown would be a disaster for Trump, but I don't see how either of them gets through the primary. Brown could eat up a lot of the white working class voters if Biden and Sanders flop, but damn a big ask.

Mister Six

Came here to post that.

Here's a piece in The Atlantic, acknowledging how well Bernie is viewed at this early stage: http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/02/bernie-sanders-democratic-frontrunner-president/583066/

"Short of Joe Biden entering the race, Sanders on paper starts off with more advantages than anybody else. He's got the largest list; he's got the most intense following that has stayed with him since 2016; he has a proven ability to fundraise from his small-dollar base," said Brian Fallon, a Democratic strategist who was the spokesman for Clinton, leading the public charge against Sanders last time around. "He's in the exact opposite position that he started off the 2016 campaign in."

It still gives the final word to Biden's lot though, and mentions some statistics that show the US isn't as into Medicare for all and the New Green Deal as the media says, but doesn't elaborate on that.

Good article in the NY Times. Spoiler - the charge by lobbyists to limit Medicare expansion is being lead by a senior Hillary '16 staffer. Shameless.

The difference between Hillary and Bernie in 4 paragraphs

QuoteThe name of the coalition is intentionally nondescript, and its executive director, Lauren Crawford Shaver, who led Mrs. Clinton's efforts in 2016 to put marginal states into play, is cagey when asked for details. She says only that the group is planning "a big nationwide effort" with grass-roots allies.

But its reach is undeniable. The coalition has picked up more than 25 members, including the American Medical Association, the American Hospital Association and the nation's Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans.

And it has already sprung into action.

When Senator Bernie Sanders, the author of the Medicare for All Act, announced on Tuesday that he was again running for president, the coalition immediately attacked him as "a leading advocate for upending our nation's health care system in favor of starting from scratch with Medicare for all."

Mr. Sanders, independent of Vermont, fired back at the insurance and drug companies. "They make tens of billions of dollars a year in profits from this dysfunctional health care system and pay their C.E.O.s outrageous compensation packages," Mr. Sanders said. "We've expected their opposition all along."

Twed

QuoteMore than 155 million Americans have employer-sponsored health coverage. They like it, by and large, and should be allowed to keep it.

I've seen that one spouted by politicians a LOT. It's scary to realise they've been given those lines...

Twed

QuoteIn a daily fusillade of digital advertising, videos and Twitter posts, the coalition, the Partnership for America's Health Care Future, says that Medicare for all will require tax increases and give politicians and bureaucrats control of medical decisions now made by doctors and patients

This is why we're being made to focus on Russia - to take away from the fact that native, corporate interests are doing far worse things.

Huh, shit, I just notice that CNN town hall took place right on my doorstep.

Bernie chiming in with some not-great views on Venezuela. This is the reality of being an honest supporter of the candidate you feel is best; they're going to have to play the game on some level and you're going to have to be prepared to be disappointed by that.
