Desertshore and The Marble Index are pretty creepy too, "Evening of Light" for instance:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWulOZRNnls

oh god yes. First time I listened to The Marble Index was one of my intense musical experiences. Desert Shore takes more time to get under the skin, but it feels if anything even more evil.

Evening of Light is like a timeless myth unrolling before your ears, perfect 1am music.

Two more that take my head off from Marble:

and from Desert Shore, one of her more accessible, but still creepy as all hell, Janitor of Lunacy

Debit's Love Discipline...wasn't expecting this from the cover or the ambient description

https://soundcloud.com/quiettimetapes/debit-love-discipline-qtt11-full-tape-mix

and this from Porcupine Tree in amongst the early 90s psychedelic greatness

Porcupine Tree - Space Transmission

Nick Cave fits the bill I reckon. Murder Ballads obvs, but any record pre-2000 has a lot of gleefull violence and discordant noise.

See also '80s Tom Waits. What's He Building In There? is as creepy as they come.

Sorry to bring this back to FSOL again, (hopefully won't happen again) but I found it pretty exciting that they're helping develop a Digitana SX-1 analogue synth, which a) is actually not too pricey b) sounds fucking class!! and c) the 4 tracks of "improvisations" that FSOL have recorded with it, sound quite mighty and I want to hear the full versions!!

Lal Waterson's demo version of The Scarecrow from Bright Phoebus is, for me, the one that really evokes the horror of the imagery...

The price on the site is for a deposit, the actual thing is Very Expensive.
They're also developing a 'pocket synth' called the HALia which will be extremely not too pricey (less than £200, I believe) and is the sole sound source for this track, which gives some idea of how versatile it will be.

The king of creepy albums has to be the last surviving recordings of an Italian castrato, Alessandro Moreschi. Sort of feels wrong to even listen to it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6U8VZ6riNk
To bring the thread full circle, he was sampled on Current 93's Where the Long Shadows Fall and The Starres Are Marching Sadly Home, which are both creepy as fuck.

Ooh cheers, will have a listen to them tonight.

Great shout Howj Begg

Winterreise was used on The Caretaker's Sebald albums, one of the best of his I think

robin wood (EMS) once quoted me less than that for a real synthi, not a looky-likey knock-off; I was put off by the waiting time of two-three years & eventually paid a stupid amount of money for one that vince clarke once owned & gave to his tech at the end of a particularly gruelling erasure tour. I collected the thing, & tried it out, in a pub in highgate. I'd lots of things that can make the same sort of noises, but there's something about the real thing....
anyway. creepy music. shameless self-promotion. this isn't our creepiest track by a very long chalk, but it's linkable.

yes, it's that time of the night...

I'm not such a big fan of hers, but I suppose Pharmakon qualifies:

All Surrogate

I think a fair few of Iannis Xenakis' string works could fall into this category e.g. Pithoprakta:

Phil_A

DEVO's "Tunnel Of Life" from their 1980 tour DVD. The queasy music accompanying the murky film footage depicting something unspeakable happening to Booji Boy is properly nightmarish.

First time I heard Shalabi Effect's The Trial of St. Orange was on headphones during a fever induced sleep. It is the perfect soundtrack.
It moves from field recordings and skittering electronics to a kind of claustrophobic psychedelia and for me is a lost masterpiece in the whole Alien8/Constellation/Kranky-axis.

Oh lord, yes. I saw that for the first time last year and it's astounding. The bit halfway through where he appears to start praying in thanks is real shiver-up-the-spine material. It's not helped by some pillock in the crowd yelling something dodgy about the Chinese, which adds an additional layer of wrongness.

With the passing of Mark Hollis, hopefully people will not only now reappraise and reappreciate Talk Talk's catalogue, but also specifically realise how creepy Taphead is. That cryptic introduction with just the guitar and vocals, blossoming into one of the most ominous musical sections I've ever heard - like a shadowy nighttime vista, with the bellowing harmonica(?) being a quick glimpse of a moving unknown something silhouetted against the sky. Then the drums come in with that unsteady tattoo, and it all builds up to that one horrifying crescendo - DUST TO dust to DUST TO dust CONSUME - and back down again to just a single shimmering organ. A chilling masterpiece.

purlieu

It took me months of regular listening not to jump out of my chair at the 'dust to dust to dust' bit. What an incredible piece of music.

Norton Canes

Not quite sure why it's popped up today but the BBC have added a handy primer for hauntology: What is hauntology? And why is it all around us?

MattD

Love Is Blindness - U2.

Always thought it was a very haunting tune.

Beauty and unease in a heady 80s Sunday evening fever dream vibe.

some more contemporary classical:

Here's a badly remembered memory of a track I heard decades ago.  Don't remember anything about it at all, other than at some point it just cut to a voice repeating dispassionately "TIME IS PASSING. TIME IS PASSING. TIME IS PASSING."  Anyone recognise that description?

I was into Nine Inch Nails at the time and I remember the Screaming Slave remix on Fixed freaking me out - just the general sound of it, but particularly the abrupt intermissions featuring, first of all, a quiet room with an ominous mains hum, and later, the sounds of someone in that room (I'd assumed footage of a psychiatric patient) having a fit.  I later found out it was the sound of Bob Flanagan actually being tortured as offcuts from his performance in the Happiness in Slavery video.  Didn't really make it any better, to be honest.

I could've swore I'd heard this from something in the playlist that very nicely Philip_A put together of many of the suggestions from the first two pages of this thread, here:

But I might have been thinking of "Current 93 -  I Have a Special Plan for This World (2000)"

Dr Syntax Head

Bit obvious but anything by Suicide gives me fear.
