The interesting thing that's going to happen at the fringes of Patreon is when alt-right folk get booted off it and set up their own one (hasn't Jordan Peterson tried to do this?), at some point they'll be forced to moderate or embrace the inevitable full-on fascism that crops up.
Yeah, Peterson left voluntarily, citing free speech problems, and is in the process of starting his own alternative (who know if that will ever see the light of day). Sargon got kicked off for using the n-word on a stream, refused to apologise, then left to
SubscribeStar.
The big competitor will probably be run by Kickstarter. First it was called Drip, but
now they're working with XOXO to do something else. Kickstarter have quite a good reputation for being responsive to their users (which Patreon absolutely does not) so if Kickstarter can pull it off then I suspect many will leave Patreon to go there.
