Has anyone unlocked their phone before?

I melted my phone on the cooker the other week. It's a bit fucked. My MOTHER has given me her old Galaxy S5. Only it is SIM locked.

Need to get it working with EE. I've got as far as getting the IMEI number but all websites I'm using cost like £20 to get a code. Must be able to do it for free??

Any advice?

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2717361 has a link to a list of codes but you might have to bite the bullet... good thread but long long long

If you don't wanna pay I hope you know how to root! :)

How old is the phone? The network should unlock it for free if it's out of contract.

guess its 3-4 years old. i read that if you're PAYG like I am with EE then you have to pay £8.99

Might have to bite the bullet but assumed it'd be free! Takes 10 days for the code to come too.

To my understanding, phones can't be locked unless they're in their initial contract period, so a sim locked PAYG phone should be eligible for a free unlocking on day one, never mind year four.
