Filming already underway...

As ever, there will be a stellar cast joining Reece and Steve. The line-up includes:

Maxine Peake (Silk, Three Girls)
Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who, Victoria)
David Morrissey (The Missing)
Dipo Ola (Baghdad Central)
Phil Davis (Vera Drake, Whitechapel)
Ralf Little (The Royle Family, Two Pints of Lager)
Jill Halfpenny (Three Girls, In The Club)
Steve Speirs (Star Wars, Upstart Crow)
Tom Goodman-Hill (Ideal, Mr Selfridge)
Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch)
Kadiff Kirwan (Chewing Gum, Black Mirror: Nosedive)
Debbie Rush (Coronation Street)
Ioanna Kimbook (recently cast opposite John Malkovich in the new David Mamet play Bitter Wheat)

Pancake

Late to this and just binged on S1-3 and it's one of the best things on telly bar none, even the lesser ones are at least brilliantly dialogued

Malcy

Another great guest cast. It's one of the things I like best about the show.

Enzo

Could have sworn that was Toby Jones in the picture. Turned out to be Steve Pemberton.

Cuellar

Oh! I thought the tall one was Mark Gatiss.

Yeah i can see that. Like a cross between Toby Jones & Philip Glenister.

Thomas

Loooovely. Not sure who's writing it since Reece and Steve died during the last episode. Their ghosts, perhaps.

Don't know if this was mentioned elsewhere but they were the subjects of a south bank show recently

Fantastic. Thanks for the link!

Just had to double check that wasn't a spoof or something as I had no idea the South Bank Show was still a going thing.

Ah, gone to Sky did it? I see.

Ambient Sheep

That's brilliant, thank you so much!

Had to stop watching it at 7 minutes in as so far I've only seen all of S4, the Halloween special, and S01E01, but look forward to catching the rest of it later.

Another belated binge-watch catch-upper here, looking forward to it.

Blinder Data

Best British TV of the decade? For sheer invention and world-building every episode, nothing comes close. Guest cast is always fantastic, as is the dialogue.

I watched "To Have and To Hold" last night, superbly grim stuff. Pemberton and Shearsmith's wigs are usually hilarious, probably the least credible aspect of the whole series.

Ambient Sheep

It's definitely the best thing I've seen in a very long time, closely followed by Taskmaster then Limmy's Show, all three of which I've been catching up on over the last 18 months due to people here singing their praises: thank you.

Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room had me in fucking tears; so so beautiful.

Once Removed had me gasping in admiration, and I've used it to introduce two other people to the series, one of whom went on to watch the rest of S4 immediately and was likewise blown away into tears by BCDR.

To Have And To Hold was already such a beautifully-observed little character piece long before the twist.

As has been said, the world-building is absolutely fantastic; how they manage to get all of that and an intricate plot into just 30 minutes staggers me almost every time.  Just shows the power of both their dialogue (which is never just obvious exposition-dumping) and their and their guest cast's performances.

Simply stunning.

kalowski

Great news. Best TV show for a long time. I was laid up after hospital last year, and it coincided with S4. My weakened state meant Bernie Clifton's... brought even more tears than expected.
Anyway, it allowed me to binge on all episodes again, as they were (are?) all on iPlayer.

Ballad of Ballard Berkley

Thanks again, ssh, for the South Bank Show link. A nice little profile of two of the best TV writers and comedy character actors of the last 20 years.

For those who are interested and haven't heard, looks like we're waiting until next year

Harumph.

My testicles exactly! Surely it's ready and this is dithering from the Beeb.

Pseudopath

I know it's not their fault, but I reckon they should give us another Halloween special to make up for it.

That would be great, if a bit rushed at this stage.

If anyone else is experiencing withdrawal, these little Youtube essays could fill the gap for a while -

Of a higher quality to most review vlogs.

FFS. Oh well I guess the BBC have had to clear the schedules for Peter Harness' War Of The Worlds

Series 6 has been commissioned although the airdate for series 5 has still yet to be revealed https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2020/01/06/45117/exclusive%3A_inside_no_9_is_getting_a_sixth_series

Steve said early Feb on Twitter (Reece just keeps saying 'soon').

Ambient Sheep

To be honest, given the fact that the hare finally turned up in its own right at the end of the fourth series (right after the episode taking the piss out of how awards are(n't) handed out), followed by what happened to them in the Halloween Special, I'm kinda surprised that they're doing a fifth series, let alone a sixth.  It seems like they were very much expecting it to end there.

Obviously I'm overjoyed that they are; I just hope they can keep the quality up.

A grime episode lightly poking fun at Boris starring Corden, Gervais, Baddiel and Iannucci

I know you're doing one of your jokes, but Corden and Gervais strike me as precisely the sort of people who'd anger Reece to the very depths of his seething soul.

And that's why we love ya, Reece!
