Wrestling: The Baron Corbin Era

One of the best G1 29 shows happened this morning with the A Block. Four killer matches to end with, and the best one so far as it relates to landmark stuff happening.

hummingofevil

Need to watch that today somehow.

Triplemanía was great. The whole thing was just a fun presentation but next year I think I'll pay the sub and watch it on catch up. It's not just that all the matches go very long but the gaps between them do too. By 3am they were just about on 3rd match.

Most noticeable news regarding US promotions is Kenny and Fenix are going to feud as singles (be pretty interesting if that headlines AAA at MSG) and Tess won the women's belt and set up more feud with Vera and another AAA woman after that. So in summary I would guess she ain't leaving Impact any time soon.

Aerostar tried to kill himself again,

the main event was BRUTAL indeed.

In the woman's match missed the ladder and if she hasn't fucked her shoulder good and proper it's a miracle.

Oh and heavy weight UFC champion, legit Lesnar beating bad-ass Cain Velasquez decided that his préfères style is Luchador. Properly funny (and impressive enough).

need to see that Blue Demon Jr v Wagner Jr match, sounds like "a laugh". Great bit on the F4W write-up of it.

QuoteAfter the haircut, Dr. Wagner Jr. said that he is officially retiring from pro wrestling. Cubsfan is saying he is literally booked for a match tomorrow.

hummingofevil

Ha ha. Yes. My general dislike of blood in wrestling meant I could appreciate it more than like that match but it was good like. People were pointing out the feuds that they set up at TM last year disappeared without trace. I'm guessing continuity is not a strength of AAA! :)

sevendaughters

AAA is a total mess, booking-wise. That's become the promotion's gimmick, embrace chaos and something will rise up out of it. Seems to work for a lot of people but their full shows are best watched with pals and a few tins rather than as a serious wrestlewatch.

And there is my problem. :) Ha ha.

Though saying that we are planning a bit of a night (well morning) in for Bloodsports.

Delivery wise, hell of a promo, can't fault it. But the message behind this has to be one of the most bird-brained I've heard in a wrestling ring. A supposedly lefty, "woke" crowd going mad for anti-union drivel.

David Starr responded with this: https://twitter.com/TheProductDS/status/1158126882224779264

With the departure of Jim Smallman from PROGRESS to focus full time on NXT UK, the "punk rock" of British wrestling continues to dissapoint.

I'm loving Matt Riddle not backing down from the old school wrestlers. There's too much hero worship of the old timers, it's why newer talent always look like dweebs when the legends come back. Sometimes you gotta show a little disrespect, especially when you're as good as him.

sevendaughters

didn't really like that promo. I find swearing a bit of a crutch for creativity in promos and in raps. I hope Walter sits on him and stuffs an EU flag down his throat.

hummingofevil

I just can't buy into Progress and I find the whole vibe of the fight for the independent soul of a company that has already sold out to WWE all a bit weird. Then again Trent Seven and Fight Club Pro who got that Sendai show over here and there were plenty of talent on show who had WWE contracts and I loved that. I suppose it just seems all a bit desperate having it as a story line.

Anyone caught up with the Beyond stuff yet? I was watching the weekly show but lost touch.  I paid £5 or a month of AAA so not getting independentwrestling.tv sub this month but really fancy seeing Americanrana or whatever it was called.

Completely agree. It rules. Helps that Riddle could likely batter 99% of the roster.

Riddle knows how much starpower he has and is way too cool to be a company man.

Go Home show for the Summerfest then.

I hope Roman "The Big Dog" Reigns does a spear.

It's like watching that Liz Truss pork markets speech. The whole show seems to have pauses built in for reactions and the crowd couldn't give a flying fuck. Weird vibe.

And Cory Graves commentary on the women is a disgrace and is reason enough to not watch this shit ever again. What the fuck are they playing at? It's gross.

Deanjam

WWE making Seth look like a pathetic loser is so bizarre. They really don't know how to make their faces look cool anymore.

It's so shit. And if he makes a miraculous recovery by Sunday it just makes all this build look fake as fuck. You could hear the crowd struggling with it too. He did get chants for him but there is enought of an audience ready to turn on him I reckon.

Nice to see this young lad called Shaun Michaels get a bit of a push at the end there too. Riddle definitely has the right idea.

The worst thing about that Raw was that it wasn't terrible. That is about as good as it gets when they try and you probably struggling to scrape 2 stars.

Shingo-Naito was a great balls-out war in G1, two old friends and stablemates just klonking each other.

I loved this. Shingo's has to be in the top five in the world at this point mustn't he? Definitely top ten.

He's super. Been good for 15 years but his run as a main eventer in Dragon Gate gave him the belief. To be fair in that company he was a powerful sadist heel bully, and here he's an battling underdog, but it works! But yeah, Shingo might lack obvious western appeal but his promos are solid and I can't think of a part of his wrestling I don't like or that doesn't make sense. His lariat looks like it kills you and Made In Japan is such a great move AND name for a move. Shame they changed Last Falconry to Last of the Dragon.

hummingofevil

On the roster's attitude to Shingo matches. And these are the arguably the best concentration of wrestlers ever collected.

"A monitor sellout."

"They are all marks for Shingo in the locker room... and so am I."

I have gone back and started watching it all from scratch but with the tags. Annoyingly probably going to miss finals as in Edinburgh.

Oh just noticed it's David Starr vs Will Osprey at York Hall Rev Pro. I'll have a bit of that

Posted by former Big Brother reject Billi Bhatti, so yeah, bullshit.

Im sure i heard it reported previously Ziggler's pay would blow your mind so might not be far off. TBF if they a thousand million dollars coming in in next few years those contracts don't look so silly. What is NXT? $50-$100k for show hardly anyone watches?

It's the impact books i would really like to see!

peanutbutter

Dolph taking an ethical stand against Saudi Arabia but ultimately caving to the ludicrous amount of money offered sounds like something that probably would have happened.
Hope it's true and hope it's seriously pissed off a lot of people going there for a fraction of that.

Dolph getting paid a decent amount wouldn't surprise me much though, he's one of the guys who was quite apathetic about staying when his last contract renewal came up. So it isn't so much that he's paid a crazy amount as everyone else is very underpaid relative to the money wwe have at their disposal.

Okada vs Evil was outstanding in today's G1, but what else do you expect?

It's Shingo vs Ishii tomorrow, it'll have a hard time beating Okada vs Ospreay for best match of the G1, but this could come a close second.

Women's Casino Battle Royale at All Out to determine number one contender to Women's title: https://youtu.be/H5_bODS2130

I love that Ivellise is in it. She was so good in Lucha Underground.

Mobius

Don't like the setup of that casino battle Royale, just do a Rumble

Yeah, that Casino battle royale was convoluted. I'd prefer it if they ripped off Lucha Underground's Aztec Wartare rumbles.

Shingo Ishii is incredible.  I can see how the wrestling review world will rate the Naito match higher but it's exactly what I want from a wrestling match: 5 stars and 9 bags of popcorn
