What's an absolutely mental moment in a video game you've come across

https://youtu.be/ul8j9I90ueM
These conversations from Metal Gear Solid 2 with Col Campbell still make me feel uncomfortable. In fact a lot of the things after this point in the game just make me uneasy. Even 17 years later I don't think anything has made me feel as unsettled as this. It's like something from David Lynch. Hideo Kojima was apparently wanting to be done with the series at this point (even though he made more after this) and was also going through some sort of meltdown but I might be wrong on that last bit of trivia.

I think having played the previous  game adds a tiny bit of context but if anything it just makes stranger.

Rolf Lundgren

Deadly Premonition has a lot but I twigged that it wasn't just crap but insane when I heard the lead character's vapid chat about "Jaws":

I can't find a clip but there's a part where he bangs on for what feels like 30 minutes about the extras on the DVD.

And the career mode on International Superstar Soccer 2000 on the N64 had a weird bit where you come home after training and have a wank then your landlady bollocks you later when she finds your jazz mag.

Very trite, obvious choice, but I can't deny that this got me bigtime (Arkham Asylum)

The Benny Hill section in Bloodborne.

God yeah. When I first encountered that Campbell section back in 2002 I had been out all weekend taking the ecstasy tablets and it scared the absolute piss out of me in my fragile, suggestible mental state. Especially when he starts going on about about how "you've been playing the game for a long time" and popping back up shouting at you to "turn it off now"

I think I did what I was told and just turned it off and went straight to bed.

Psycho Mantis shit in MGS1

I think that was the point I realised I wasn't crazy about 'meta' devices in fiction.

I know the woman who translated that game into English (and a good job she did of it too). She thinks Kojima is an arsehole and all his stories are stupid. I like that bit though.

Yeah that last hour or so of MGS 2 freaked me right out as a kid.

In fact Metal Gear Solid in general made me feel odd, especially the psycho mantis stuff.

I do think the stories are stupid but I do enjoy them.
