Taking water everywhere

For the last five years at least, maybe even ten, there's been a strange habit that thousands of people seem to have. Taking a water bottle around with them. Not to the gym or some other physical activity, but everywhere. People come into meetings with a water bottle. There's a weird (and false) belief that we must be constantly hydrated, that it's bad for our brain or something. Flush out or dilute the toxins. I don't even have a bottle with me on a short 3-5 mile run. I certainly don't need one to get through work. If I need a drink I can usually wait, or find some sort of tap that connects me to the water system.
Even worse: a little slice of lemon in the bottle.

And what's the deal with oyster cards?  Where did they come from and why are they so small?

I find it mental people take a bottle of water with them while they run. It's so awkward to hold whilst moving. And you have to carry it even once you're finished. Similarly holding a phone rather than put it in a bum bag or something. I mean it's not as if when you're doing a short jog around the park you are go to need to rehydrate.

That's me

Anyone who questions why people drink water simply hasn't experienced good water. Of course I'd never touch the water in this country, my preference is for Peruvian Andes half spring/half glacial melt blend. They sell a powdered version in Waitrose but it's nothing like as good as fresh.

I drink 14 litres once a week on Monday morning.. Why isn't everyone just like me

Drinking a lot of water throughout the day actually is quite good for you though

Morecombe and Wise, yes? Funny men with the vigs and the buckets of water.

I never drink water and I am all shriveled up like a little prune. I've seen an odd american-specific trend, where joggers will dump water over their heads. They fill up their dinky water bottles at the free water "dat's socialism!" fountains they have everywhere, and then pour it over themselves. One man was shrieking "Hoooo!" as he did it, and prancing about. Sometimes they drink the water too. Americans put stickers on their water bottles, and the water bottles are pastel coloured. I always take an empty plastic water bottle through airport security with me, to beat the system, but nowhere else.

Is it though? All the time? I'm not saying dont drink water, I'm just very suspicious of the idea we need to be able to drink water almost constantly. I drink when I'm thirsty (unless it's beer)

If I'm not holding a bottle of water (or any other item, but bottles of water look the least conspicuous) in each hand at all times there's a very high probability of me having a wank against my own will. It's a serious condition

I'm often seen with a bottle of some fizzy juice or another but I'm diabetic and I'm often thirsty. It's definitely not for fashion reasons.

Christ! At the very top.

I'm not a monster. Unless there are a lot of diabetic people, most are not carrying water for the same reason as you.

bless me father for I have sinned, it's been a week since my last confession.

I don't carry water everywhere, but I take it into meetings because I might get thirsty.

If you look on the United Kingdom subreddit they're all in favor of banning mineral water bottles and coffee cups, which is fine for regular consumers. But I've basically organises my life such that I don't carry more than I need, anything you can't pocket is superfluous, so on the rare occasion I do need water or coffee, I can count on one hand how many per year, I'd prefer not to have to bring a rucksack and my own bottle on road.

i am one of these water bottle people. i just don't like having a dry mouth and being stuck somewhere with no access to water sounds like a nightmare. surely you need a drink every hour or two? i always have a glass of water next to me at home too.

Oh, I didn't think you were, soz - I don't really know why people do the water bottle thing. Maybe it's just them proclaiming "Look at me! I'm a healthy person, not like wot you lot are" or something.

Or that. That sounds more reasonable than my proposition.

I like water! I don't drink tea or owt so..

Mind you, I don't run often or have a job so I'm not a Turn Up Anywhere With Water Wanker

You're alright tone, but I'm mildly suspicious of people that 'don't drink hot drinks'.

I do know that if you had a meeting with me I'd offer you a glass of water. Don't bring your dayglo plastic bottle into my office unless you're a long distance runner.

Claude the Racecar Driving Rockstar Super Sleuth

It does seem a bit over the top. Having said that, I am a stingy git and, when I'm out and about, I'd rather carry a bottle that I filled from the tap than pay some "barista" five quid for a cup of coffee. I'm rarely out long enough that it's an issue though. I can easily go three hours or more between drinks without any ill effect.

Small Man Big Horse

I'm one of the water carriers though I choose to have a massive pot of it on my head so I can look cool like those sexy African chicks.

I have a coffee when I'm knackered so might be trustworthy based on that...not every day, but I was up til fucking 5am on here drinking cider so.. Yes, a hot drink was fuckin needed the morn!

Sebastian Cobb

People bring water to meetings because meetings are shit and awkward which can cause drymouth, then there's the talking.

Sometimes I'll bring a brew instead. If we have external clients then facilities will provide Caramel Wafers, I've no shame about dunking them in front of people either.

but you're supposed to have eight glasses of water a day and if you divide it up over a 16 hour day of awake time, that's one every two hours.
