Ha, thought you'd banished this from your life, hadn't you? No, this song exists!

I haven't heard it for ages and rather hope everyone involved in making it has died in prolonged and unfortunate circumstances. But now thanks to me it's hoving its way into your psyche.

This thread is not in Oscillations because it is not music.

I hope this ruins your day.

This has dredged up, having been repressed in my subconscious for many years.

Best bit: rapturous applause for himself as he gets introduced on stage as wossisname that cunt from that fucking record.  Brave move by the lad but it was what we were all thinking.

And it ends with something stupidly young, doesn't it, like "now I am 23 years old and so much wiser I'm sure you'll agree".

It annoys me a bit that he lived longer than that.

Fun fact- I've never heard this record but I know what it is. He looks like Rob Beckett doesn't he?

Just done a Google and he really doesn't look like Rob Beckett. Who am I thinking of then?

kittens

just googled this and still no idea

Utter Shit

I also don't get enjoyment out of things that aren't aimed at me!

Joe "Joey Essex" Swash? Or is it Harry Webb from One Direction?

I just posted in another thread to say I've never heard of 'hot take', and I've never heard of this song either.  What is this?  Post about things that don't exist day?

Yeah, is it that Frank Sinatra song,

"when I was seven years old,
it was a very good year
it was a very good year for small town girls
who lived upstairs
with dogshit in their hair
we'd hide from the pigs
in our disguises and wigs
when i was seven years old"

Anyway, who is to say this song isn't aimed at us? Who is it aimed at, the Iberian lynx?

Quote
Once I was seven years old my momma told me
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was seven years old
It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger
Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker
By eleven smoking herb and drinking burning liquor
Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure
Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me
Go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely
Once I was eleven years old
I always had that dream like my daddy before me
So I started writing songs, I started writing stories
Something about that glory just always seemed to bore me
'Cause only those I really love will ever really know me
Once I was twenty years old, my story got told
Before the morning sun, when life was lonely
Once I was twenty years old
I only see my goals, I don't believe in failure
'Cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major
I got my boys with me at least those in favor
And if we don't meet before I leave, I hope I'll see you later
Once I was twenty years old, my story got told
I was writing about everything, I saw before me
Once I was twenty years old
Soon we'll be thirty years old, our songs have been sold
We've traveled around the world and we're still roaming
Soon we'll be thirty years old
I'm still learning about life
My woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs
And I can tell them stories
Most of my boys are with me
Some are still out seeking glory
And some I had to leave behind
My brother I'm still sorry
Soon I'll be sixty years old, my daddy got sixty-one
Remember life and then your life becomes a better one
I made a man so happy when I wrote a letter once
I hope my children come and visit, once or twice a month
Soon I'll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be sixty years old
Soon I'll be sixty years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be sixty years old
Once I was seven years old, momma told me
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was seven years old
Once I was seven years old

..and it's difficult not to feel humbled or even ashamed after that

Shoulders?-Stomach!

I like that he sees children as fuel that can be burned to keep him warm, real recognise real

This song is NOT aimed at me. I have never been 7 years old, and refuse to relate to 7-year-olds (current or former)

Space ghost

What (clap) fucking (clap) song (clap) ?

Icehaven

Never heard of it, thought it must be some sentimental 70s crap I'm too young to remember, Googled it, discovered I'm actually too old to remember it, Methuselah soon.

The song is aimed at children and teenage girls, the OP might as well be annoyed that jigsaw puzzles for ages 12-24 months aren't difficult enough for him. Think about what you're saying rather than seeing a post of mine and trying to find a reason to get upset about it.

Your original post was narky, so you should expect some nark back.

It's a pop song and is aimed at a broad range of folk (hence being played on Radio 2 to death). I don't know why it's intended target audience, as described by you, should mean people refrain from discussing its quality. We can all discuss the merits of Pixar films.

Shoulders follows me around making snide comments as often as possible, he's playing the man not the ball. I'd be more willing to put up with a response from the original poster. I wouldn't say the original post was particularly narky, although I suppose it could read that way.

I suppose so, it just seems so throwaway and irrelevant, I don't really understand how anyone could be offended by it. If you're going to be annoyed by something as bland as that, you will literally be upset by everything. And I do think context is relevant, something that is aimed at children is unlikely to appeal to middle-aged men, and that's probably a good thing. God knows some of the shit I used to listen to as a kid was no better than that.

I don't think the Pixar comparison is really fair - those films are aimed at kids, but they are made to be enjoyed by adults too, a lot of effort goes into ensuring that anyone can be entertained by them. That's why they are mostly loved, and why it's notable when one doesn't work with adults. I'm sure the creation of that song never involved a moment to think whether it would be a hit with the middle-aged man demographic. It's less Pixar and more Peppa Pig ie. irredeemable shit from an adult perspective but the kids like it, and that's the point.

Mate the song is fucking cancer.

I hope he'll "soon be sixty years old" because he has progeria. There I said it. Vilify me if you please

Probably the best hate listen of the modern era. Every listen provides new depths of despair.

"Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me
Go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely"

Eleven year old boy out looking for a wife. This dad's a cunt. Look how his son ends up:

"My woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs"

Bad attitude. I blame the dad. Hope he got what he deserved.

"Soon I'll be sixty years old, my daddy got sixty-one"
Yes, he died relatively young. Result.

mippy

It's no 'I Wasn't Expecting That', though.

neveragain

It's the half-arsed "some I had to leave behind, my brother I'm still sorry" that irritates me. Something like that (in fact this applies to the whole song) isn't touching or profound if it just flits past in a second or two with no further information.

Glebe

I got dressed up like a little city gent and went into the bank of England yelling "Fuck the pound."
