Tory adore clan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY7XEWwCXNk
Seeming more and more likely that it's Ventrue next (the actual tory adorers), then Nosferatu, with Malk and Gangrel as DLC. I'd like to see Lasombra too, I can already vividly imagine how the shadow powers would look in this game

Also someone's got the full main theme somehow, which we'd only heard parts of before. I love it, darker take on the old theme and I love that it's kept the drums https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e_RAsns1o8

Mister Six

I'll be disappointed if all of the playable clans are the same as in the first one. Especially since they've wasted a slot on the boring old Brujahs. Lasombra over Ventrue please. Does anyone really care about playing Ventrue? They were boring in VTMB too.

Mister Six

Boo!

Oh well, looking at the site it does seem that they're doing a better job of providing substantially different play styles for each clan this time, with the Brujah being the superfast brawlers, Tremere the sneaky assassins, Toreador the social manipulators (though the repetition of Celerity seems a bit cheap, and their powers a bit bland and ineffective - could all change when we see how it plays, mind) and Ventrue the tanks.

Looks like there's also a greater emphasis on melee combat this time around too, if the Brujah and Ventrue skill trees are anything to go by.

Noonling

Mmm, that last point is one that's a slight concern to me, I'd prefer to have the combat to be the same % as it was in BL1. I suppose combat is kinda the easiest and most flashy thing to show us at the beginning though.

Mister Six

Yahoo! Hopefully they can balance Bloodlines 1-style Malkavian fun with realistic, sensitive, nuanced depictions of an ancient curse afflicting the undead.

Looks good! I hope the facial animations are a bit more expressive. Loved that about the original. Any other jank is fine, or even preferable. Hopefully Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't overshadow it since they could be released around the same time, although this was always going to be a bit more niche.

It doesn't look great. Check out the club scene at 1:05 and the gunplay at 11:50.

As said in the top left corner, its a pre-alpha build.

The graphics are mediocre, but its not a priority for me. The only thing that bothers me visually is the poor NPC animations.

Otherwise a clean UI, decent voice acting, display of choices and consequences (even if we don't yet know the consequences), setting remarkably similar to VtM1 (which I feel is good), hints of side quests (could do with more random NPC chatter though), nice use of power at 9:17, got me interested in "resonances"...

Current concerns: Lack of ambient noises, crappy club music (I seriously loved the music in VtM1), potential over-reliance on the "see everything you can interact with" ability, shoddy combat (or at least how the player played it), repetitive combat yelps, and 10+ years out of date NPC animations.

EDIT: Oh there was some ambient music that I didn't hear at first. Also, you can see Outstar do a kind of review of the gameplay shown, she address some concerns:

Hahaha.  Brilliant.

Hmm, I'm not as forgiving towards it as Outstar. I have hopes for the game but I can't agree with her that the feeding looks 'really good', nor can I handwave the fact the humans don't react when you do things which blatantly break the masquerade.

Noonling

Yeah, the masquerade thing I'm (perhaps kindly) assuming it was because its an alpha version and a gameplay video and they don't want it clogged up with masquerade breaches.

Mister Six

As pointed out, it's pre-alpha, so all of this can (and, I'm sure, will) change before release.

Not keen on that song playing in the club. This is a world where people exclusively listen to darkwave or industrial! Like this, I've been thinking this would be perfect https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gsXdT7mjoI
Although I'm sure they know they'll never top ISOLATED

Noonling

Outstar has a video speculating on the different factions. The gameplay videos from last week show four factions mentioned - Camarilla, Baron (Anarchs), Tremere and Pioneers. I've put the timestamp where she mentions Pioneers as the rest of the video isn't important:

Honestly at this point I'm mostly following VtM news so I can watch her, but her theory also sounds solid.

VelourSpirit

This video is great, 2 hours of Rik Schaffer's VTMB score and ambience but with calm footage of all the places in the game. Wish I had a second monitor for this to just keep running, it's much nicer than just having a still image for the whole 2 hours. Best atmosphere of any game, ever. That's the only thing I really really hope they do well in the sequel.

I'd never heard the unused song at 52:49, Innocence Once Lost,. It's lovely.

there's going to be a vinyl set with remastered tracks from the original game! what an absolute dream, hope we don't have to import it

Brian Mitsoda's been fired out of nowhere, along with the creative director, and replaced with a "consultant". Not even Mitsoda knows why. All of my excitement for this game just evaporated.

Somebody just bought me this as a present. The actual CD (not Steam version). Nice. Except it doesn't run on my PC. Installed, doesn't do a thing.

[edit: Downloaded a patch. Seems to have worked.]

While the game's firing up I thought I'd link to a Kickstarter I saw the other day for a new VTM board game, where players represent different clans vying for control of Chicago. Just to cheer you guys up, you see, cause you all seem really down about VTM2.

But

Searching for it on Boardgamegeek, there appear to be not just that but four other completely unrelated licenced VTM tabletop games either just released last year, or coming up in 2021. That's just crazy, I've never seen five different, independent games based on the same licence released within the space of a few months.

VTM Vendetta (this was the one I saw first)

Then

VTM Heritage | VTM Chapters | VTM Blood Feud | VTM Rivals ECG

Is it still White Wolf that owns the copyright? Why are they suddenly flogging the rights to all and sundry?

Do you mean the original?  The sequel isn't out yet.

Man, they fired Mitsoda in August?  Stupid, stupid move.  Feels like just yesterday I blacklisted Bloodlines 2!

I did try and play Bloodlines much later, but some kind of glitch wouldn't let me proceed past the hand-holding levels

I got through the tutorials last night then ended up stuck in the elevator that takes you to the game proper because the doors wouldn't open. Restarted, skipped the tuts, had a wander round my apartment, hit the beach...

Norton Canes

Immersed now. Half a dozen quests on the go. Not out of Santa Monica yet though.

Is there something I'm not doing right when I fire guns? I wait for the crosshairs to converge but never seem to hit the target.

Ventrue always struck me as the least interesting lot to play as, in terms of the game. Do they get anything fun? Slightly fancier digs? Is that it?

Er... not even slightly fancier digs, at least not in this. They get extra 'dominate' dialogue options that make it easier to persuade characters. And 'seductive' dialogue too but I haven't used that... yet.

How do you haggle? I get some sort of haggling ability with my Finance skill but when I buy stuff from the pawn shop it seems I just have to cough up the asking price.
