The sight of some people desperetly trying to excuse the media for spending 2 years gleefully passing on anonymous cia and fbi lies without the slightest hint of journalistic sceptism, abandoning all professional ethics in the process, is a thing of beauty isn't it.

Urinal Cake

For professional 'fringe' journalists like Greenwald, Màte, Ames it's turned personal when their inegrity has been questioned. Especially Ames whose wife is Russian and has suffered from Rusphobia. You can understand their gloating and attempts to get a few symbolic heads.

That being said a lot of public goodwill and credibility built by the fourth estate from 2016 has been lost. That's not good for democracy. I know Trump has veered into tabloid journalism but there's a difference between matters which have internatoonal repurcussions and matters that really involve the families and friends of two people.

Desperet? Anyway - your failure to actually respond to the points in my post speaks volumes. Cheers!

So no apologies or self reflection, nope, they're going to double down on the bullshit instead.

I love this form of "journalism".. Reading the words you get a sense the writer has a very high opinion of themselves - the Pulitzer is within reach! Acclaim! But you also get a sense of their feeble-minded grasp of reality, their brains corroded by political dramas, befuddled by beige intrigue, the only power they wield is the ability to construct sentences of erudite but tiresome prose.

Star of the #MeToo movement there, David Corn. Imagine being any less aware of when to shut up than that.

His name always makes me think of this: https://twitter.com/dril/status/134787490526658561

This is the most ridiculous reaction of all. You settled on it months ago, it's derived entirely from your own internal annoyance at people not acting the way you want them to and is completely independent from current events.

QuoteI don't see what's ridiculous about people thinking it's regrettable that the liberal media has been acting like Infowars for two years and that this puts at least one nail in their coffin.

I haven't said anything either way on this matter.

Pretty good summary:

Media Malpractice in covering Russiagate took several forms--getting in bed with intelligence agencies, reporting based on picking sides, wish fulfillment instead of skeptical investigation, profiteering from mass hysteria, & the demonization of skeptical voices/

Maddows approach to deceiving her audience for 2 years appears to be to go full on Alex Jones and spin off some new conspiracy theories to cover the last ones falling apart.

On the other side of the coin there's this (thankfully just an opinion piece) that just feels icky: https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/435552-apologies-to-president-trump

biggytitbo

Newspaper that fabricated fake Russiagate stories without any consequences ponders whether journalist pushing fake Russiagate stories should face any consequences

mugwump ji sum

I don't think Maddow was lying. A lot of faithful liberals genuinely believed the Alex Jones tier stories fed to them. She looked lost when she had to report on the closing of the investigation.

The Mueller investigation was always just a ploy to keep Trump under the cosh and prevent him from reaching a detente with Russia. Now with neocon ghouls back in the driving seat and Trump promising record levels of immigration, there's no need to keep the pressure on. Recognising the Golan Heights as Israeli was what probably got the Mueller probe finally shut down as a reward.

Now that Trump is OK with her masters, liberals like Maddow must be feeling disconcerted after having been whipped up into an anti Trump frenzy for a couple of years solid.

paul manafort meeting a russian troll farm operator in havana and giving them polling data to better target the dumbest motherfuckers on the internet with bizarre memes about the shape of texas somehow doesn't count as "collusion".

their efforts were almost entirely laughable and almost certainly had a completely negligible effect on the election but the intent was 100% there and nobody involved even denies it so why are people pretending it didn't happen?

if that had been some no-name intelligence agency gopher and not a presidential campaign manager the poor fucker would be getting his balls cooked via car battery in a middle east blacksite right now... not doing a small amount of time in an incredibly cushty rich dude prison like manafort.

Because if running a troll farm to spread propaganda and attack citizens engaging in the democratic process was illegal then they'd have to build a superjail to house all of American's top-level political operatives.

They just want you to think about Russia so you don't look at bigger operations running closer to home.

The BBC have had to pay up and apologise over a fabricated Russiagate story - https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47719166

Which is at least more than the Guardian or Luke Harding have done.

Shut these institutions down. "we 'apologise', here's some money that we found in our collection tin...right, back to being one of the worst British broadcasters in current operation"

Not sure how this supports your narrative really Biggy, given that it's an example of quick detection of a false story and a full apology. Good try though.

Urinal Cake

It's a pity that the debate has now settled around media personalities rather than (quasi) political institutions. But then Internet.
