That's bad news. I really liked Q: The Winged Serpent and God Told Me To.

Jake Thingray

Wrote several episodes of Columbo as well, with and without credit.

I loved God Told Me To, a very unusual film.

I remember Barry Norman's scathing review of The Stuff.  He just took it as a straight B-movie horror and didn't seem to notice its satirical intent.

He was a good guest on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast a year or so ago.

They're definitely his best films.  He had a great skill of combining unpredictable scripts with excellent casts. The Stuff is also a great film that Michael Moriarty completely owns and makes a far better film than it could've ended up as.

Taping a double bill of Q and Lewis Teague's Alligator on BBC2 the night before school was one of the best things that happened in my burgeoning film watching years.  Perfectly gory and comic-book style films with convincing and likeable lead actors that were a gift to young me.  I think it wasn't long after that The Stuff was on the telly and I was fully convinced of this man's genius.

RIP big man.
