Worst acting from a famous actor

P.S. Don't even try to evade the spirit of this thread and tell me that Tommy Wiseau etc is technically a "famous actor"

Aye, that Lorraine Kelley one is completely fine. I think she even does quite well for someone who's not actually an actor.

I remember thinking Michael Madsen's performance in Sin City was really surprisingly flat, given how buggered his career was at the time. I know it's a mall role, but you'd think he'd have a bit more of a crack at it: https://youtu.be/BqiowQ81oCA

Harry H Pacino : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO5rEeH5JQs

CSI walfamstow

[edit- just found this lurking on imdb. I had no idea...]

"Pacino reportedly ate so much chicken between takes that he earned the nickname Al Pa-chicken amongst the crew. Once filming wrapped, he was so horrified by his poultry intake during the shoot that he became vegan for 17 and a half hours and donated his fee to a chicken sanctuary in Aberdeen, Scotland."

I thought it suited the flick... reminded me of harrison ford's reluctant/stoned deadpan drawl v/o in the 1982 cut of 'blade runner'. pulp. noir. whatever. besides, it's sort of what madsen does, isn't it?

Why is it bad acting to not be able to do an accent? It can be hilarious but it's bad production (you're meant to pick actors to fit the parts, or rewrite the part to fit the actor). That said the worst acting I've seen in recent times is Jared Harris in The Expanse who completely forgets to act because he's trying to affect his Belter/Yardie accent.

There could be a whole thread for this, and Josh Hartnett in Blow Dry attempting a Yorkshire accent would win.

Rifftrax recently covered an absolutely hopeless Star Wars knock-off called "Star Games"(released in 1998 with effects that look easily a decade older), featuring a cameo from a bewildered looking Tony Curtis giving possibly the least committed performance of his entire career.

I just watched this yesterday having only ever seen the later cuts of the film. Fuck it's really terrible isn't it? SUSHI. That's what my ex-wife called me. Coooold fish.

Add me to the list of Madsen defenders. I love him in that scene and have taken his delivery of "you gotta bum TICKER" with me since I first saw it in 2005.

Ray Winstone in any film where he has an 'American' accent.

Nicolas Cage in any film that he clearly doesn't want to do.

Keanu Reeves in any film where he has to speak.

He's an Academy Award winner who has the ability to underplay and be over the top... here he manages to be both in the same scene, which is quite a feat to be honest.  The dialogue is pretty clunky, though.  Too bad... I always liked the rest of the film.

Apart from Beowulf, where his cokerney accent sank what could've been a great film.

Terence Stamp, too. Blue is hilarious from the point where he finally gets to speak.

Birthday? Yes, one of a number of actors born on April 1st.

The worst thing about this monstrous Sharon Stone performance in Alpha Dog is that she isn't even in the movie, she just pops up at the end of an otherwise decent film to do this -

Cringe warning.

The final six seconds of that scene was Sharon Stone out of character, after the director had yelled cut.

Yuk yuk, snarf snarf.

That's a really good performance in terms of the over-primped hyperfake US advertisement world. She's conveying the inherent sociopathy in corporate advertising very well.

She was truly awful in Roseanne - albeit at a time when the entire show was already truly awful.

Jennifer Anniston is a character actor, who prepares for all her roles by being Jennifer Anniston.

Johnny Depp in Tusk (and Yoga Hosers) is truly, unbearably awful.  All the comments seem positive, though.  Totally baffling.

Also a remarkable clip to see John Goodman (1:30) corpsing in a prerecorded studio sitcom

David Niven in Curse of the Pink Panther : https://youtu.be/vY04JLQa1MQ?t=58
Well kind of, as it's Rich Little (Canadian-American version of Mike Yarwood) overdubbing the voice because Niven was dying and could hardly speak.

That's no better or worse than any of the 'comedy' acting he's done in anything else.
