I'm generally convinced that whatever I can't find is in a particular place, such as a cupboard.

First step, stand in front of the open cupboard, not moving anything around.  Scratch head in bewilderment.

Second step, go and look somewhere else, but in an even more half arsed manner.

Third step, return to the cupboard and move a couple of  things in it a couple of millimetres to either side.

Fourth step, look in another room, vaguely looking around, again not moving anything.

Fifth step, return to the cupboard, remove everything and examine the contents closely.  Put everything back, bewildered at my lack of success.

Sixth step, repeat step 4.

Seventh step, return to the cupboard and stare at it.

Repeat endlessly and without any further success.

Once tried to operate a pelican crossing with my security pass.

The first step to finding something is to stop looking.

Then, admittedly, to start looking again.

once lost my house keys inside my flat. somehow I'd managed to get them into the empty one inch of space between the washing machine and the kitchen worktop.

that's the end of that anecdote
