And several people have misspelt "The Great British Political Tradition" in the last few of them. Sickening.

Specifics aside, I don't believe domestic UK policy should be constrained by treaties - whatever they are, that our elected representatives cannot realistically change, its anthethical to the British political tradition.
You'll be gratified by how the Immigration and Social Security Co-Ordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill takes up the modern (2012+?) tradition of specifically contradicting the Good Friday Agreement then.

It's a shame, mind you, that those awful/fantastic Committees keep saying nasty things about the lack of parliamentary involvement in future trade treaties, and how this is far worse than our current situation.

Isn't it time that Brexit recieved a gritty Reboot? I'd like to hear peoples suggestions to recast Brexit.

Alberon

I think the experiment with specific Brexit threads has failed and returning to one megathread for the omniclusterfuck and eventual collapse of British society makes sense.

Zetetic

Did we ever find out where that DUP money came from?

(The donation funnelled to Vote Leave, not the confidence-and-supply bribe.)

A handy summary of the previous 6 threads using quotes exclusively from Page 30 of each thread:
The remain camp, of course, know exactly what will happen when we leave gifted as they are with the rare talent of precognition. Which we should all be glad of as fuck me its bleak. Dig yourself in, and prepare yourself for the end of the world.

Here's my stab at predicting what will actually happen - everyone will stop been utter twats and fairly reasonably come to a series of mutually beneficial agreements, because that's generally how the real world works outside of political campaigning. Nobody will get deported, but if the British people vote for a party that wants to reduce immigration then they will be able to actually do it.

Not really something to shit your pants about.
No deal

Extend Article 50 until we get another deal.

Saying to the EU "Chequers deal or no deal"

Labour deal?

Get the sentiment but that's never going to happen. I'm anti-Brexit, from the point of view that the damage to the economy will hit the poorest harder than they're being hit at the moment, but don't kid ourselves; the EU will never reform itself to socialism. Free market capitalism is the pillars and foundation of its constitution, everything else is secondary. That includes great things like free movement of people. That wasn't thought of because some liberal bureaucrat thought "being able to let anyone move across borders will be well nice and morally good", it was thought of because some bureaucrat thought "being able to let anyone move across borders will be better for business and profit."

Also keep in mind socialism (the kind Scargill advocates) has never been achieved through the ballot box in one country, so god-knows how it'll be achieved in a bloc of 27 countries, all with their own economic and political situations at home.

The idea of reforming and voting the EU into socialism is a crystal clear definition of utopian. Yes, more utopian than a socialist revolution happening any time soon.

But its been pointed out a thousand times now, there is going to be no hard border in ireland under any circumstances. So all facts need to move around that immovable position.

Now parliament for the first time just decided what it wants, and it also expressed the opinion it doesn't want a no deal. So the ball is in the EU's court, it either moves or it is it's fault if we end up with no deal.

Rees Cunting Mogg on BBC now.

Hollow man Macron is really trying to get Mays deal passed -

QuoteFrance has reiterated its opposition to Britain being granted any further Brexit extension if it does not have a concrete plan with clear support in the Commons, saying that without that Britain must be deemed to have chosen to leave the EU without a deal

Nobody believes him. Be funny if they were the ones that set us free though, we'd rejoice France for generations if they did.

Alberon

Cuellar

Why would that be funny. Are we meant to hate the French or something? Or is this just a bit of Partridge/Clarkson levity.

biggytitbo

I love the French, they are our old chums and rivals. The irony is he thinks he's been super tough when millions of us are actually cheering him on to do what our dismal politicians won't.

It's a fantasy though, he's just posturing to try and get Mays WA passed before the EU elections, so he can get on with his big plans to create a nightmarish federal superstate without us as a thorn in his side.

without us as a thorn in his side.

So you are admitting we've always had power within the EU?  Power to start things, power to stop things, power to change things?

Quick, wind it back lest you confess to being a remainer.

Surely if Macron blocked an extension, Parliament would find some way of getting a vote on revoking A50, with just a few days to go before Crash Out Day.  Faced with a choice between No Deal and Revoke, I suspect Parliament would vote for the latter.

biggytitbo

Seems like the labour/tory talks have broken down. After all the bullshit rhetoric, the EU will have to come up with some super imaginative reasons to grant another extension, as it sounds like May will have nothing.

Yeah only if that's the last choice left, which is incredibly unlikely. The EU don't want the blame for no deal or revoke.

QuoteNew - source tells me Government not suggesting any actual changes not just to Withdrawal Agreement, but the Political Declaration too.
Instead a clarificatory memorandum about how the Govt interprets the PD.

If this is true, fucking hell.

No compromise, no deviation, no dealing with reality at all!

biggytitbo

Sound alike may won't even compromise and change the political declaration, so there's basically nothing for Labour to work with. What is she playing at, it's almost as if she wants the whole thing to fail. If it was anyone else I'd think there was some grand strategy behind it, but this is May...

There's three options.

1/ She can turn to the country, shrug and say "I tried." and then go back to having a MV3, 4 or whatever.

2/ She can be 'forced' by the EU to accept a referendum for a long extension and therefore be able to claim it isn't her fault. But she seems truly deadset against one, so I dunno.

3/ She's fucking insane and so out of her depth it's unreal.

1 I think, she's still trying plan a which is to pressure MPs into passing her deal due to lack of alternatives. And 3, this is insanity.

dr beat

Yes, I reckon her plan is to kill time until she can hold MV4 next Thursday, in the belief she can scare enough MPs into voting for it then.

The green/yellow pallette is well chosen, and the leopard shoes are almost cruel.

I just wish this cruelty was attached to the merciless inhuman behaviour she demonstrated as home secretary.

It is a creditable attempt at drawing a Webley Mk VI as well, which I thought was a nice touch.

If this is true, fucking hell.

If Corbyn goes along with that, Labour are finished. I can't imagine he would, in which case this is all just a ploy to waste time until she brings another MV just a day or two before No Deal. Which is a disgusting way to 'win', let alone run a country. She's totally fucking nuts at this point, isn't she.

Who on earth is in her inner circle encouraging her in this way, and why?

biggytitbo

Talks will continue tomorrow though, so not over yet. But hard to understand what the point is.

Bryan Cocks

Latest from the BBC seems to confirm that May's team have offered fuck all. They undoubtedly never intended to, which makes all of this just a ploy for time. I dearly hope Bercow stops her deal from being presented again, if that's her plan. As I understand it, she'll then agree to abide by any vote that wins, which is as clear an admission of abject failure as anything. I guess the issue is that we've had indicative votes twice already with no majority. Having to sit through that again knowing that the same outcome means no deal is the political equivalent of a penalty shootout.
