Still think polls are reliable?

https://whatukthinks.org/eu/questions/if-there-was-a-referendum-on-britains-membership-of-the-eu-how-would-you-vote-2/

Best have that second ref then, right?

Leave were also polling on 37% in 2015, Leave managed to claw their advantage in a short campaign. A warning for if we have a confirmatory vote.

Personally I believe it should be framed as a confirmatory vote as it's easier to make the argument now that leaving will make people's lives worse and the exercise is a demonstrable waste of time and money.

I'm just looking forward to the one bright spot on the horizon after brexit.  People like Liam Fox, not just like Liam Fox, actually Liam Fox, will be able to spit in their hands for the UK in smoke-filled rooms, ploughing our fucking sweet sweet trade deals for us like we've never been ploughed before.  Not democratic but awfully sexy.  I'm not a virgin btw.

Two of the good guys

BlodwynPig

Did the Israeli Goebbels win the election then?

Yes, the idea the UK should be an independent country that makes its own laws and has politicians responsible and accountable for them is really terrifying isn't it.

Could we try to find some responsible and accountable politicians before we give them control over our laws, please?

biggytitbo

In terms of polls, it might also be worth pointing out the tories have dropped  precipitous 13% in a couple of weeks. Remain having an 8 point lead after 3 years of relentless pyscological warfare is not particularly impressive and easily made up once the campaign starts and remain use their legendary political acumen and common touch to piss off and alienate pretty much everyone, even those on their own side.

I'm pretty convinced now that brexit has fatally wounded the tory party and they are going to be out of power for a generation. Even a Labour party that hates its own leader is going to win the next election and that makes it all the more important we get out of the EU as quickly as possible. What seemed unthinkable a few years ago is literally right there in front of us - the most left wing government in living memory out of the EU and free to complety transform the UK without the preeminent enforcer of neoliberal capitalism in the Western hemisphere - the EU, to constrain it.

With the tories destroyed, there is no longer any excuse for continuing to support the EUs pernicious influence and all those that persist in doing so reveal themselves to be defacto Soubryists, an active barrier to progressive change rather than a defender of it.

Replies From View

And then when the Tories get back in power some years later they will just undo what Labour have done with a vengeance, and we won't have the restraining hand of the EU to protect us anymore.

You have to think longer term.

katzenjammer

Let's see a labour government first, and then worry about whether we should leave the EU or not.  OK comrade?

Urinal Cake

Well the idea is to entrench those services such as the NHS so deeply that any reversal would be political poison. Of course this means Labour can't just be the party of good ideas but have to manage the State

The Tories have got away with privatising the NHS to fuck so far.  The majority of people don't seem to have noticed.

Urinal Cake

The Brexit bus blamed that on the EU. People know services are shit but they believe they're shit for certain reasons- EU, immigrants, welfare cheats, no money etc.

And years after Brexit actually happens the destruction of the NHS can be blamed on punitive trade deals with the EU.

Buelligan

Well, when you make big changes it's almost inevitable that some people have to go under the bus.  That's just how it is.

Hands up, who here reckons biggytitbo is a virgin?

At least 3 blighted ladies have the mental and emotional scars that prove otherwise.

jobotic

Love this. Socialists who don't want Rees-Mogg's wet dream hard dry Brexit (no lube) are now Soubry-ists.

How ever many sexual partners anyone on here has had is irrelevant, by the way. And that's not because I haven't had many.

Double figures here!

If I round it up to the nearest ten...

By the way Simnock, I admit to being totally triggered by being called a Soubryist so no need for one of your clever burns here. You're still brilliant though.

I thank you very much, let it never be said you aren't one the most decent of people on here

Paul Calf

You're also incredibly difficult to flatter with obviously false praise. One of the most unflatterable people I've ever encountered.

biggytitbo

This is the new narrative they're setting up for us:

Don't like the fact MPs have totally fucked up over brexit and want to strongly state so? Fascist. Want to leave the EU and strongly state so? Fascist.

Poor MPs, they created a total mess and people are criticising them :(

Paul Calf

"Them".

It's interesting that the only actual Nazi in that little vignette is the one you're specifically not calling a fascist.

You've neglected to mention what it is in his speech they're objecting to. Why is that?

what a brown tongue statement "oh Jobotic don't listen to mr_simnock he's so false whereas my praise is for real, oh you are so unflaterable" dear god LOL

Buelligan

Continuing in the puerile vein, look at this El Cagner of David Cameron I just found.  At 16€ it seems an investment worth making before the pound loses all value.

If I owned one, I have a little loop of the humming playing whilst it was on display.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Well done!

Mr_Simnock

do I win a toaster for getting the answer right?
