Hunchbacked figure is spotted in rafters with buckets of water.

Central spire has fallen. Obvs not an architect but I can't see how it recovers.

Only a building, but this is pretty devastating

biggytitbo

Jesus the spire has gone, looks bad. I wonder how it started? Arson?

Fireman Trump is on the ball though, he's suggesting they use water to try and put it out.

biggytitbo

York Minster had a pretty bad fire in the 80s didn't it, and they managed to restore it. I even did the blue peter competition to design one of the bosses but they never used it for some reason.

Was going to call the thread "Notre-Damn!", pah!

It looks really bad.

Dex Sawash

Doesn't look good for carbon

biggytitbo

It's strangely upsetting to see it go isn't it.

I hope something can be retrieved, I notice from the pictures parts of it were covered in scaffolding so I wonder if it was a fire that started during some building work or restoration or something?

Sebastian Cobb

Loads of plans and 3d models and that so it could be restored if the cash is there.

imitationleather

Would make more sense to stick some luxury flats there.

biggytitbo

What would the equivalent building be in the UK? The Post Office tower?

Really does feel like we're living in hell

'The bells! The bells,' cries Quasimodo, covering his ears at the noise of the fire engines.

'Fire to fight. No point getting the hump, mate,' answers a fireman.

Cathedrals have stone high vaults under the roof space. This is a serious fire but French Cathedrals went through a lot worse in WW1. Two whole bays of Soissons nave were blown up and Reims lost its entire roof and part of the apse.

It's starting to feel like the first 20 minutes of a Roland Emmerich film.

Gilets Jaunes have gone too far this time.

Apperently they French state has been super stingy in recent years in paying for the needed repair work, I imagine they'll suddenly find the money now.

'Okay, that's the practise run,' says Gerard Batten.

'Euro-Parliament, here we come,' answers Nigel Farage. 'Those Algerian Muslims better 'fess up, after that six-figure franc bribe.'

I hope the flames aren't threatening Buellers' cave, but I suppose that's one of the main benefits of troglodytism. Perhaps they should have put the cathedral in a cave.

Are tags ever coming back? I've got a cracking Kings of Leon one.

Quasimodo trending on twitter for the first time ever. Do you reckon he started it as a cry for help?
