I fear a string of onions might chafe on his hump.

Yes, that's right, that's noted pioneer of polyphony and member of the Notre Dame school Léonin (maybe)

My girlfriend's dad is an ex-firefighter. He watched a couple of videos of the fire last night and immediately pointed out the scaffolding; he has seen similar fires before where flammable materials were strewn around the roof of a building during renovation, someone was welding and an errant spark ignited the whole thing, and he reckons that's what happened here.

It's more than likely. What's French for Hot Works Permit? Billet d'travails chaud?

Jittlebags

Surprised Elon Musk didn't turn up with an autonomous rocket powered fire engine.

Thank God they saved the fictional priceless relics the crown of thorns and fragment of the true cross.

This isn't the time or the place to start naming Paul McCartney's ex-wives, as tempting as it may be.

He knows a lot more about fighting fires than Donald Trump and stupid conspiracy twats but as an expert he has to be wrong.

I was wondering if the plastic netting they tend to cover the scaffolding in made it worse.

Shouldn't feed onions to chaffinches.  It is poisonous to them - the chaffinch equivalent of having your roof on fire.

Lisa Jesusandmarychain

I once saw a girl on a bus in Latvia feeding onions to her pet chaffinch. I didn't say anything though, cos I think chaffinches are cunts.

I'm glad lazy French workers are to blame rather than Muslim terrorists or a secret society of Jews.

One of them cooking snails or frogs' legs on a small stove, no doubt.

Pdine

Has anyone looked into Inspector Clouseau's whereabouts at the time?

Also, why aren't the flying buttresses snapping the remains closed like a Venus FlyTrap, now that the roof vault is not opposing their pressure?

FBs are the biggest engineering scam in history. Absolutely no need for them.

Dr Sanchez

This is almost as bad as that massive Primark fire in Belfast last summer.

You guys are all laughing about it but what if all missing episodes of Doctor Who, Dad's Army and Not Only But Also were being stored in the loft there?

Yes, see.  Makes you think doesn't it.

Most of the internal vaulted stone roof hasn't collapsed but besides that the buttresses mostly don't work as a counter to the outward push of the roofs weight but via transmitting the force of that push away from the walls.

biggytitbo

Disappointed to learn the spire that fell off wasn't even the original. FUCK IT THEN.

Yeah exactly.

It's had more facelifts than Simon Cowell.

Billionaires are chucking their equivalent of a couple of quid in the collection box and being loudly cheered for their generosity by fucking saps.

Missing volumes of the bible, more like.

Testament III: GOD HARDER
Testament IV: Whoever Wins, We Lose (Unless It's God)
The Real Testament: Barabbas Done A Cross-Dozy
JUDAS: The New Adventures

From the standard
QuoteNotre Dame fire fund hits 600 million euros and rising as L'Oreal offers to pay 200m

It's just a church ffs!

Cuellar

850 year old church to be fair.

How would you like it if your 850 year old mother burnt down and L'Oreal didn't give you a penny towards the rebuilding? Think on.

The covers of those, but with cheeky French pornogs inside, like with the Sports Almanac if you remember that bit.
