If I had a British vote I'd vote Labour, only Labour.  Corbyn has made Labour worth voting for and I think it's also worth sending Labour MEPs to Brussels to join with other socialists, to oppose utter cunts like Farage and his allies.  Fucking hell, opposing Farage is worth it on its own.

So who would you vote for?

None of them. I'm a bit odd in thinking that ticking a box every 5 years won't change my life all that much.

NoSleep

It might help change things for others.

Buelligan

And what if it's true, ticking a box every five years doesn't change anything (maybe like voting Remain) but not ticking the box, what does that do to your life?  That's worth consideration I think.

Why not vote then? I bet you get up to all sorts of things every week that don't change your life all that much.

Two questions: is this on a different day to the council elections, and is there a tactical voting site for both?  (For the leftest viable option. you numpties).  Not sure if I should trust the leaflets I'm getting in Brighton.

The high numbers in that poll for Labour confuse me. Why would anyone vote for them in these elections?

If you're pro-remain you need to vote for who you think will best represent you if we remain.

Labour, of course.

No need for tactical voting; vote for the party that you want to win; it's a Euro PR election so your vote ends up counting towards a percentage of seats for your party.

Local elections - May 2nd, Euro - around 23d-26th May.

Labour or Greens.

Everyone else involved is pro-status quo or pro-making things even worse.

canadagoose

Think I'm going to vote Green. There's a chance they could get a Scottish MEP (even if it's just for a few months) and it seems like a good idea.

biggytitbo

Labour's latest high profile European election candidate is Andrew 'Lord' Adonis, the closest thing in British politics to a far EU supremacist. Not exactly inspiring much faith in Labour's official position as sensible brexit compromisers.

Thanks to the people who answered my question. To be honest I'd never really considered that anyone in the UK might vote in this election on any issue other than Brexit, or that any party (other than Labour and Conservative) would campaign on any issue other than Brexit.

I'm left wing, but I'm so disgusted that Labour don't support freedom of movement that I could never bring myself to vote for them.

NoSleep

It's one of the things Labour wanted to add to May's agreement so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Think he's on about this thing here.

NoSleep

Well, no freedom of movement = no customs union, according to the EU, so it must still be on the table if they're still going for a customs union. Shouldn't trust Labourlist with Corbyn news; you might as well ask Tom Watson.

I know there was a whip to support the Common Market 2.0 indicative vote, but a few days later Corbyn's office put out a statement confirming that the Labour 2017 manifesto pledge "Freedom of movement will end when we leave the European Union" remains party policy.

He doesn't want to join the existing customs union. He is proposing to form a new customs union.

The Greens were also sensible on the recent copyright stuff.

Freedom of movement and a customs union are two different things. Fom is people, customs union is goods. A case in point is the NI border, the whole problem there is a hard border for goods. There is no hard border for people as the UK and Ireland have had bilateral fom for people since the 1920s.

The solution to the NI border is to have a similar bilateral solution for goods too, but the EU single market fundementalists forbid it.

Is it a good thing to give goods and capital more freedom than human beings, do you think?

biggytitbo

Whether it's a good thing or not, it should be decided by a democratic process where our elected representatives are accountable for what they do on our behalf.

jobotic

That's why I'm voting Nazi = for democracy (and socialism).

Corbyn doesn't care, ultimately. The right to go and work in another country is just so low on his list of priorities that it doesn't even register as something worth protecting.

Just saw this.  Cheers, NS!  Wish they'd just smush them together.  Too many visits to my local primary school in a short period of time and this "I'm voting!" excuse will start to wear thin.

Sorry I was dismissive of this last night, got in from work, extremely tired and was short on the necessary necessaries.  Anyway, just wanted to remind you that if you want a politician that cares, you'll go a long, long, way before you find someone better than Corbyn at that.

Also wanted to flag up what being a socialist is about, IMO.  Not about what we want is it?  Not really about us at all.  More about collective action to produce the best outcome for most people, I reckon.

FoM is (obviously) hugely important to me but I recognise that it's way below things like child poverty, healthcare, housing, environment, education, justice, work, war and not having it, and so on for many (and rightly so).  Corbyn has to care and fight for all these needs, all of these people and I'm glad he's not a single issue politician like Farage.  He's a person who is trying to make really terrible shit better for everyone.  If that means my FoM has to go, I give it.

Ok, but you've dodged the question haven't you? Is a trade deal, CU or whatever that prioritises the movement of goods and capital over that of human beings a good thing?

Quite a good point:

QuoteTo socialists considering abstaining or backing Brexit Party:

If Labour win the European Elections then Jeremy Corbyn would win a set of elections which Blair, Brown and Miliband all failed to win.

The 'unelectable' myth would be dead a socialist leader would be legitimised
