I love Spoon. I used to hear Adam Buxton speaking highly of them every few months on the Adam and Joe show, but I never liked any of that mind 00s indie guitar pop that Buxton and Cornish played, so it took me a while to give the a proper chance but I'm glad I did.

They were the most critically acclaimed band of the decade just gone that ended almost a decade ago, but don't let that put you off them.  Their most recent album, Hot Thoughts, is their best, and its title track is the most slick, perfectly produced piece of music I've ever heard. This song from the same album is brilliant too.

These songs are also good:

I haven't really kept up with Spoon's output, but I'd just like to chime in and say Small Stakes is one of my favourites. It's an experimental work of art, very different and surprising, it's not rock or pop or anything, just making interesting music.

Just heard I Turn My Camera On in an advert at a movie theatre two days ago.

I really liked Gimme Fiction, but they never got me interested to the point of wanting to seek out more of their stuff.

I disagree. Spoon seem to be heading down a somewhat similar route to Modest Mouse: having proper chops in the scrappy, emotive American indie scene around the turn of the millennium (with MM getting there a little sooner) and then eventually polishing up their sound, arguably to their detriment. Admittedly this is way more evident with Modest Mouse, who are just really boring now, but Spoon's Hot Thoughts was a let down after They Want My Soul, which I thought was excellent (Inside Out is one of my favourite singles of the last ten years, for sure). I really dig Kill The Moonlight and Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga too. Yer man has a brilliant voice.
