Some King Tubby or Lee Perry dubs fit the bill, too.

LKJ In Dub as well.

Pebbles Vol 3 was always lots of fun, especially 'Like A Dribbling Fram':

QuoteI used to have these argyle socks,
So I kept a box to bloom in my room
'Til my girl named Shirl said, "You squarehead! Argyle socks are out boy!!"

Dr Rock

Stinkfist by Lydia Lunch and Clint Ruin was always a favourite too

McChesney Duntz

Seconded on "Stinkfist." In fact, I played "The Crumb" at the start of a trip almost thirty years ago (?!), at high volume, and it really set us on our way...

Though, oddly, my best acid/music memory involves Hatful of Hollow, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me...

It's a drug, not a therapist. When you realise that the idea of an hour doesn't currently have much meaning, the idea of your 'neurotic psyche' is meh, tbh.

You are definitely over-thinking this.

And failing to understand the point of psychedelics. They are not for happy happy joy joy people.

Okay. I've already said that I have no experience in this area, I was just over-thinking out loud because I find the topic interesting.

And, as I say, my Herb Alpert suggestion was just a daft joke.

I feel the need to say that drugs are illegal and I'm reporting this thread to the police.

My FRIEND is very appreciative of your suggestions. The more I think about it, instrumental stuff that takes you on a journey could work well.

Arvo Part? https://youtu.be/U4RmJaP683A

Koreless? https://youtu.be/4gpyCsCpH2Q

Fuck Buttons, or is that too scary? https://youtu.be/rKd7WQSk-1Y

My FRIEND is not sure whether he should listen to this stuff before the trip, or keep it a surprise.

Johnboy

make a youtube playlist of it all and shuffle

The adverts would make it a "bad trip" I would think?

No one should knock Herb, this sounds excellent on MDMA & possibly acid.

Speaking of trying to watch films whilst tripping: I once got a hold of LSD, seemingly just co-incidentally as C4 were having their Techno Trip Weekend (1996 I think), ended up watching Baraka - it was powerful and very moving and I think it had a significant impact on my psyche at the time (I would've been 16). We managed to watch a good bit of it (maybe all of it?) because it was so colourful, sounded amazing and edited with a very clear narrative.

Wot? No mention of Hawkwind or Gong, yet? Also, Pink Fairies "Never Never Land". Some Jimi Hendrix (Electric Ladyland) or Spirit (Spirit Of '76), too.

Gong are great on shrooms!

I once had a lovely experience listening to Jimi Hendix's - Electric Ladyland on LSD. I hadn't really been a big Hendrix fan, but that album just seemed to pour out of the speakers and I could see Hendrix just strolling down the street. It was amazing! Conversely, we put on Sgt. Peppers afterwards and The Beatles just seemed so limp and try-hard (and not very trippy) in comparison.

In my experience with acid, doesn't matter how well you plan things, your trip will take you where it takes you, so I agree with the suggestion of a shuffled playlist, rather than trying to force anything by picking a really specific set of songs.

Also, I got into Beavis and Butthead for the first time, having previously been resistant. It was the one where they were bored and ended up watching the electric meter going round, declaring that 'Time sucks'. That floored me.
... you have to allow moments like this to happen!

I remember watching Ren & Stimpy ("RUBBBBBBEERRR NEEEEEPPPAAALLLS") on acid and laughing our faces off, we also managed to catch Bjork's Army of Me video for the first time during that trip!

Nice.

Ummm also... While typing the above, I was somehow playing, Terry Riley - A Rainbow In Curved Air and Julian Priester Pepo Mtoto - Prologue / Love, Love at the same time! .... so yeah. Give that a go!

. Great choice! I'd recommend the new Amon Tobin album too, in fact pretty much all his stuff will mess with your head

My go-to track when it gets to a certain point is the Autechre "Skin Up, You're Already Dead" mix of Saint Etienne's Like A Motorway.  Takes me to a beautiful place that it can't quite manage when I'm not in that zone.  Can almost be used to test whether the drugs are working or not (so I've heard)...
