Not sure. I know that to play rugby is "enrugment" but that doesn't really answer your question.

From WordHippo:

Quote
The noun rugby can be countable or uncountable.

In more general, commonly used, contexts, the plural form will also be rugby.

However, in more specific contexts, the plural form can also be rugbies e.g. in reference to various types of rugbies or a collection of rugbies.

Thought it might be “rugbii” but that doesn’t fit with 17 down (“Irish hearse disaster”).

Bit stuck but don’t want to google it or anything.

Doesn’t fit with 3 across though (“David Batty’s deepest desire [8,3]”)

I’m being serious here - if I thought Blodz had it sewn up, I’d have called time on this thread myself.

Just got off the phone with Bill Beaumont and he reckons it's "ruggerduggerdoodoos".

I sent him a Snapchat to confirm and he denies this vigorously. Were you talking to the right one?

He's just sent me a message on Polish social network Gadu Gadu saying he's never used Snapchat, so I suspect you were talking to one of the many sex workers on Snapchat who perform Bill Beaumont roleplay (the B in LGBT+ stands for Beaumont).

Actually I thought that’s what the “+” in “LGBT+” stands for.

Which Bill Beaumont are you talking about? I’m talking about the chap who sells used tires in Handsworth and does landscaping work as long as it’s cash in hand and “not too complicated”. He’s usually shit hot on crosswords which is why I ask.

why not publish the clue so's we can all have a crack at it?

'egg-chasings' would be my effort, but I don't know how big of a gap you've got.

That one’s either “jazziest bed” or “kangaroo VHS”, they could both fit if I do a bit of work on some of the other shorter answers
