Took me years to notice this was a Wizard of Oz reference.

Season 2, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

Not really familiar with much of Devito's career prior to IASIP, so I don't know if this is just his character he always does, but Frank Reynolds feels like it was lifted straight from Herbert Powell.
he's not really a typecast character actor, he was pretty diverse in his roles

You may have known him from such films as:
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Romancing the Stone
Twins (basically his first lead)
Batman Returns (must've been filming when this episode aired)

"You remind me of the monkey man who slaughtered my families chickens"

Last Exit To Springfield is bloody amazing. The hit rate is phenomenal.

Yeah it's still my all-time favourite episode. There's just not a single wasted speck in the whole thing, polished and brilliant. A comedy show at its peak and absolutely blazing.

I love the bit where Burns asks Homer "you find the bathroom alright?" and Homer answers "uuhh.. yeeahhh" in a completely vague and ambiguous way that I can't quite figure out. An episode as watertight as that, and they can still chuck daft gags in like that.

I thought it was implying that Homer didn't find the bathroom and just took a piss anywhere.

That's certainly the way in which I've always interpreted that joke and I'm 99% certain that it's how the writers intended it.

They showed Homerpalooza a few weeks back.

about 40-45 seconds into the link - what's going on there, then?

Homer's being vibrated off stage by the sheer power of Frampton's rockin'.

Yeah for some reason I've ended up always thinking past that point, like there's something weirder going on. It's the way he says it. But I can't put my finger on what it would be, which leads me to conclude that you are correct and I need my head looking at

It does carry this impression that pissing in a cupboard was only the beginning of his adventures.

Homer: You're selling what now?
Apu: I am selling only the concept of karmic realignment
Homer: You can't sell that! Karma can only be portioned out by the cosmos!
Apu: Well, he has got me there

Marge: Have you noticed any change in Bart?

Homer: New glasses?

Marge: No, he looks like something might be disturbing him.

Homer: Probably misses his old glasses.

Marge: I guess we could get more involved in Bart's activities, but then I'd be afraid of smothering him.
Homer: Yeah, and then we'd get the chair.

Marge: That's not what I meant!

Homer : It was Marge admit it

The cold indifference to everything Homer says including that disturbing last line is so grimly hilarious

Didn't a British guest character once call someone a 'wanker'? I think it was cut from telly but it was defo on the video release of whatever episode it was that I can't quite remember now.

Edit: Just googled it, it was U2 in Trash of the titans.

Quite a strong word to use in a show like this.

https://simpsonswiki.com/wiki/List_of_vulgar_words

Also notice they've used shite once, wanking and piss.

QuoteBart: "Oh, come on, everyone knows the first day of school's a total wank."

Principal Skinner:"If by wank you mean educational fun, then stand back, it's wanking time."

Blimey.

Captain Z

Wank/er/ing is meaningless in America, they just don't use the word.

It also appears in the episode where Homer is watching Britain's longest-running sitcom ("and tonight we're showing all seven episodes") "Do Shut Up":

"If they're not having a go with a bird, they're having a row with a wanker"
