Probably from me. Obscure Sheffield bands from the late 70s/early 80s is one of my specialist subjects.

probably asked you this before- were you acquainted with the shit city fuckers?

The Fuck City Shitters. I certainly was. We had to call them FCS in the paper though. Shame.

you're right.... Martin Archer (a sheffield musician of my acquaintance) confused my memory by relating how they were asked to change their name for a booking, & responded by calling themselves what I called them by accident.

Neville Chamberlain

No love in this thread for The March Violets? They had a very "goth" aesthetic, but musically it was sometimes more jagged "post-punk" with nods to goth. Anyway, great band - I love 'em.

They supported The Danse Society when I saw them on that legendary night in Birmingham. They were quite good. Think I bought a couple of their singles.

I think I have all of their records. I thought they were great at the time but I don't reckon their stuff has aged well.

Like the Danse Society, they reinvented themselves for an attempt at the big time. Simon's spiky vocals gone, pretty female vocalist Cleo up front. Oddly, I don't think this track has aged as badly as the early stuff:

The March Violets + Turn To The Sky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leT5sIMFwIs

The second b-side from the 12" was always my favourite:

The March Violets Electric Shades: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3GihLX2ORA

Nice expansive flanged guitar sound and a nod to Siouxsie with the 92 degrees lyric.

Is it time to mention Goths by the Mountain Goats? I think it is. Absolutely gorgeous record. Gorgeous, now. All about the goths.

My favourite track is the one about Andrew Eldritch out Sisters Of Mercy.

"Andrew Eldritch Is Moving Back To Leeds"

Just wonderful.

"Nobody ever gets away,
Even the best of us come back some day
..."

It is a glorious album. Rain In Soho is an obvious choice for this thread, but it's obvious because it's so good: https://youtu.be/anS6bcPpvoQ

that's me but with the comsats. I've even got 'fire on the moon' & the soup album, & some bits of SF's solo stuff.
it's not goth, but there's a really poorly mellotron on this track (& I can't find the version that's not the 'alternate mix'...)
