Chi-Chi the Mad Egging Clowne by Liza Minnelli.

I see you, standing lonely
Outside the theatre door
I feel you, so distant
You're Chi-Chi the Mad Egging Clowne

Please believe me, dearest egg-clown
I give you my heart on a plate
I embrace you, feel your nutmegs
You're Chi-Chi the Made Egging Clowne

I can feel you, I can touch you
Your heart beats like a mad clown
I can see you, I can be you
Feel your heart like an egg

I wish I could, dear
Send you home, dear
To your planet called Eggdillis #9
I can sense you, simply touch you
Chi-Chi, my Mad Egging Clowne

So farewell dear, please believe me
I did all I could for you now
I will love you, I will feel you
Chi-Chi, the Mad Egging Clowne

FOOTNOTES: "This is a very beautiful song. It was written in 1980 by Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra one day when they were on a lunch break. Paul and the Orchestra noticed a disheveled clown, standing outside the CBS stage door. While they did not approach him - he could be carrying germs - they did discover, through the use of common tongue, that his name was Chi-Chi, that he was from the planet Eggdillis #9, that he liked throwing eggs at things and that he was absolutely stark raving mad. It's one of the lesser-known songs in my oeuvre, but it's a personal favourite. Bernie Taupin once told me that when he first heard the lyrics, he felt like quitting music forever." - Liza Minnelli, Rolling Stone interview, 1993.
