Max Landis, son of John, accused of emotional abuse and rape among other things (according to allegations which he is yet to comment on). Also, is anyone actually familiar with this guy? I'd heard of him despite him seemingly only writing garbage flop movies. Seriously, his CV is dreadful and yet he seems to be fairly well known. How does this phenomenon occur?

He was on Red Letter Media a few years ago too and he came across very gobby, that American thing of constantly shouting what you're saying. Ah shit, I remember reading about that years ago, but didn't realise John Landis was the director.

I really really loved him at one point, off the back of Chronicle and his Superman video. Thought he was a really fun, charismatic guy with fascinating things to say about storytelling. Weirdly, despite following him closely, and getting excited for their release, I never bothered to watch any of his other films. Really enjoyed Dirk Gently though, and was disappointed when it got cancelled. Not now though. Fucking hell.

It's one of those things that seems completely unsurprising - and yet has taken the bravery and honesty of a number of women (some of whom stood up a long time ago) for people to properly notice. I know he was sort-of outed a while back as a rotter (and this article makes me embarrassed, as such a fan, for not reading further), but nothing as comprehensively appalling as this. Multiple rapes, regularly choking and strangling, slapping his girlfriends, humiliating them in public. Using his money and prestige to form a cult around himself so nobody sees what he's doing. He's always had that vibe of the overconfident but needy creep. Like a leery pick-up artist. What a truly horrible bastard. Really ought to be banged up on the basis of those stories.

He was fairly obnoxious and hard to watch, but for a while, he did at least seem like one of the "good guys", speaking up for more and better representation for women and minorities in film, and generally speaking fairly openly about the film industry's many failings. I imagine that added a frisson of irony to some people who were glad to see him brought low.

Interestingly, I read a blind item a few days back about a cancelled Hollywood Reporter tell-all on a famous director accused of this sort of thing. The journalists involved believed the pressure on them to cancel came about for business reasons (and with his new projects lined up, that makes more sense now), so they were working out another way to break the story. People assumed it was about Bryan Singer, but I'm guessing it was this.

Thank fuck for brave women coming forward, and persistent reporters willing to risk their jobs to get word out.

Hopefully his horrible fuck list won't be getting longer any time soon, at least.
