I'm reasonably tall (six foot three ish) and have come to realise that my pretend resentment of people taller than me is in fact real, and angrily sour.
I pick up my partner from the station most days and if she arrives at Folkestone West on the 19.23, I have to stand there while seemingly an entire train load of rudely tall people march past.  Why?!  Why that train?! Why so tall?! I think they must install them at Ashford International just to spite me.

My husband says he's 6'4", which he was when I first met him 39 years ago but life is hard on tall people and I reckon he's under 6'3" now, after several decades of stooping and hunching in a world not built for beanpoles. Anyway he cannot bear not being the tallest person in the room. A weekend in Amsterdam nearly killed him (in case anyone doesn't know, the Dutch are generally very tall). I never get tired of goading him in public places: 'I reckon that young man in the blue shirt is taller than you.' 'What? That dwarf? No way.'

No.  I have a couple of mates a tad shorter than me, and there is no bubbling tension.  But then none of us have that short man syndrome, so that could be why.

Aha! Massively tall woman who used to come to my old library was Dutch! I didn't know that was a thing. Probably why she was quite comfortable in herself, too busy staring at all the weird British dwarves to think she was the anomaly.
