David Baddiel
Ed Gamble
Jo Brand
Katy Wix
Rose Matafeo

Good list. I approve.
Especially Katy Wix.

I like Jo Brand, but I do worry she might be the type to not really commit herself to it. She always used to be the first to go 'Oh, who cares?' on QI, and I don't think Taskmaster works when somebody's half-arsed towards it - see most of Series 6.

Still, it's Taskmaster, I'm already counting the days.

When's it on?

September, probably? They're recording the studio bits next week.

The fifth series started on 13th September and the seventh on 5th September, so should be on the air by mid-September you would think. Don't know Rose Matafeo but liking the look of that lineup otherwise.

I predicted Gamble and Matafeo the  other week. But I've predicting Gamble since about s4 so I had to be right sometime. I had a feeling about Baddiel since last week when the official Taskmaster twitter accidentally copied him in to a tweet with this series line-up. I absolutely adore Katy Wix so really pleased she's doing it. Jo Brand could be hit or miss.

Baddiel pretty much came out and said he was doing it a few months ago I think.

Press release says "The ninth series of Taskmaster will air on Dave in September". Confirmed, albeit vaguely.

Aye, I'm surprised it's taken so long for Ed to be on it.

Good cast that. I always hear really good things about Rose Matafeo, on this forum and elsewhere, but I've always been too lazy and forgetful to follow it up.

Robot DeNiro

Extremely promising line-up.  I'm surprised to see Jo Brand on the list, as the format seems quite at odds with her persona, but I'm very interested to see what she does outside of the normal panel show environment.

The odd numbered series are the best, aren't they?  It's the opposite of the Star Trek movies.

MigraineBoy

Nice to see this series has addressed the diversity this time around and gone for 3 Avalon clients.

Two token men though

Small Man Big Horse

I'm not too impressed by Baddiel's inclusion but hopefully he'll surprise me in the way Rhod Gilbert did. But otherwise it's a list I'm happy with and will hopefully be fun stuff. I actually think September's a bit too soon though, and would like a bit more of a break if only because afterwards we'll probably have to wait until May for the next series.

Sin Agog

I'm sure Badiel will get disqualified in the Try Not Call a Socialist an Anti-Semite in Under Five Minutes task.  It'll feature that blonde Swedish guy as the Socialist.

Puce Moment

I really cannot watch David Baddiel on anything. I love Travel Man but I could not watch that episode with him because his voice is utterly grating. I find him incredibly over-rated and unfortunately he has a very similar personality to an ex-colleague whom I dislike a lot. I also really cannot watch Jo Brand on TV for similar reasons, and as noted above, I will be stunned if she manages to put effort into this.

The rest look very promising, but it's going to be a real test of my commitment to the show to watch 10-hours of those two.

I skipped that same episode for the same reason. He's even ruined The Sundays for me by association.

I hope Jo Brand actually does the tasks and doesn't just spend the entire time inciting violence on much loved political figures.

Rumour has it that she kills Greg in the final episode.

Bonus point available for guessing which one was a cunt.

I'll guess Acaster, Stirling, Pascoe, Lycett and Vine . Stirling's the cunt.

Quote from: Small Man Big Horse on June 27, 2019, 09:45:15 PMI worked on the first Celebrity Big Brother series as well as a logger, and know that was Horne's role too, but I have no memory of him in the slightest which is odd.

I don't know if he did that as well, but according to this Digital Spy interview, it was regular series 3 he did, so you would have just missed him.

Did I once read something about him graduating to being a task designer on later BB series?  It's just that during one of the last Channel 4 series I was surprised and enthralled when an edition or two of BBLB took us behind the scenes into their task-designing shed, and we actually got to meet the task-designing producer on camera.  Which, if my ten-year-old-faded memory is correct, was a somewhat shy beardy man... or am I just imagining it?  Probably.

BTW, just stumbled across this from Wikipedia:

QuoteIn the 2018 Celebrity series, during one of the eviction nights, YouTubers/Pranksters Ally Law and Ryan Taylor managed to sneak into the garden, they were both apprehended by security not long after, they both got sent to court and they both received a CBO order and narrowly avoided a prison sentence.

Wow, seems a bit harsh!  (No, really it does, I'm not -- for once -- intending to resurrect an old meme here.)  You'd think a police caution, at most, would've done...

I don't think punishing unfunny YouTubers with harsh sentences is that bad, to be honest - but then I really enjoy the ones where pranksters get punched in the face.

Anyway, back on track, here's what I think of these people based on a) whether I have heard of them, or b) the images that come up when I 'Bing Image Search' their names.

David Baddiel - Heard of, don't mind too much because of Mary Whitehouse Experience, Fantasy Football League and Three Lions.

Ed Gamble - No idea, 'Bing Image Search' suggests that he seems to just make faces and sideways eyerolls.  Whether or not these are at the same time, I am yet to ascertain.

Jo Brand - I've never really found her that funny, apart from that joke she did about when she attended a football match and joined in with the "Who Ate All The Pies?" song only to be told that the crowd were singing about her.  That's her own material, I'm not being mean.

Katy Wix - No idea.  Googled the name, pictures came up, know the face from somewhere.

Rose Matafeo - No-one can look that happy.  I hate happy people.

So, like with every series, I hope that the happy people fail and the miserable - yet pragmatic - people win.

Sinha, Sanders, Osman, Key, Kumar.

All disappointingly nice.

I was going to guess three of those, damn it.
