What is "this"? Just focussing on trad campaigning?

pancreas

Wooing rooms of old women in care homes or what have you.

holyzombiejesus

pancreas

No. But he was apparently quite good at getting donations out of old women too. It's not the sort of thing you imagine him doing, until you imagine him doing it, and then you're like, oh yes, that's exactly the sort of thing he would be doing.

holyzombiejesus

Fucking hell, that's so true. A sluglike Saul Goodman.

Newcastle East this evening. Very nice session with a bunch of firm young carrots.

No sign of any weakening of the Labour vote here. But then if Newcastle East goes, we're all fucked, so not exactly bell-weather. Still, it was fun.

cor it's chilly canvassing. I am dumbfounded when you get the "I can't vote Labour because of Brexit" because I just know the "renegotiate a deal that includes customs union, put it back to the people with remain" will fall on deaf ears because they've been manipulated like a John Lewis Christmas advert.

Our MP comes along to pretty much every canvass though not sure if that's usual but he's a good egg and I hope he keeps his job.

pancreas

Say: I'm not asking you to vote Labour because of Brexit. I'm asking you to vote Labour because of [insert favourite policy].

Buelligan

Yep, there'll be life after Brexit, whatever happens, who do you trust to shape it?  Boris Johnson or look at the Brexit Party, they don't even have a housing policy, they don't have a healthcare policy, nothing for the NHS, their environment policy is to plant more trees and recycle, they have no work and benefits policies... none, d'you think that's because they care about these things?

pancreas

You know, there's really nothing like honesty. One of my mates is adamant the best thing to do is just to say: look I'm a Remainer, I voted Remain and I would do again. I know you're in a different place, so let's just talk about something else. For example, have you heard that [insert favourite policy].

Haven't read the thread, what do I do?  The time is now.  East Anglia viilage, south Norfolk, complacent fat bastard tory MPs since time immemorial.  No previous political memberships if you discount 1980s CND.  Tell me what to do and I will do it.  Cheers.

Can you get to Norwich North?

That's a target seat. Currently Tory, but only just.

Of course I can.  That's the Chloe woman who got ripped a new aperture by Paxman on his programme 'Newsnight'.

Do I need to be a Labour member?  I suspect so please guide.  Long time labour voter.  Very mindful of this opportunity for this depraved country.

No need. But why not join anyway?

Pick one of the sessions in the mycampaignmaps, text the contact's mobile saying you're coming but you want to be paired up with someone who's an experienced canvasser to start with. Then they should sort you out when you get there.

Had a difficult session yesterday, lots of JC is antisemitic and one JC supports the IRA. Had a good conversation with the latter person, he was surprisingly open to discussing it, but ultimately don't think he could be convinced. One thing that's occurred to me, are the JC is antisemitic crowd likely to have come to that conclusion in the last 2 years? I would have thought most of them had the same view in 2017 and so wouldn't have voted Labour then anyway. If true, that's somewhat heartening.

OTOH had quite a few people saying they're voting Labour but aren't very optimistic about the outcome - it's fun to tell them hw many other people have said that and that their pessimism might be misplaced.

Had one guy who said he was going to vote Lib Dem, I just instinctively said "In this constituency??" in disbelief (they were in 4th place with 4.6% of the vote last time). Pretty sure that's one more vote chalked up.

Big rally at the McEwan hall last night with Corbo-babez was good fun, although it felt odd that a well-respected and widely (at least locally) admired singer/songwriter Meursault was relegated to opener and a local party member doing covers (admittedly doing songs requested by speakers) 'headlining'. I guess that's what happens at political events. Not my thing musically but other people seemed to enjoy it!

Thought Richard Leonard's speech was quite rousing. First time I've seen him speak in person, I enjoyed his extreme intensity when talking about workers' rights. He clearly gives plenty of fucks. Obviously you'd expect that, but good to have it confirmed.

pancreas

Good work. Remember, manifesto not yet out. Things are moving very quickly, but we're still thawing people at the moment.

From general life experience, I find that people aren't likely to admit defeat in an argument/debate directly to a person's face. Matter of pride innit - especially with something as contentious as agreeing with Jezza. But they might still change their views in the privacy of their own heads, or at least that's what I hope.

Pink Gregory

Very likely to join today.

I want to help out with stuff but as a depressed 'sperg I absolutely cannot bring myself to doorstep anyone, even if they were nice.

Is there any kind of organising for driving people to the polling station/helping campaigners get around that is usual?

pancreas

You can do some leafletting. Go to events.labour.org.uk and see if there's anything near you that you can help with. Also search facebook for your local branch Labour party (usually the same as your electoral ward name) and the Constituency Labour Party, which may have separate lists of events.

Or if you're happy to speak to people on the phone, then wait a few days and Labour will be launching its telephone canvassing app.

Blinder Data

I might have managed to convince a friend to vote Labour instead of SNP last night. Tough sell though. The way I framed it was socialism before nationalism, as is the case with me.

It would be lovely if Labour isn't wiped out in Scotland but I do have the fear :|

You guys ever wonder why everyone hates chuggers?

bgmnts

Yeah but if you live in the more deprived parts of the UK under the yolk of cunt tories, it makes sense why you'd want to vote SNP. Definitely feel like its the south east of England vs rest of the uk half the time.

No, I never did. Please, please, Bosto, please tell us why everyone hates chuggers.

Fambo Number Mive

Just donated to Labour. Wasn't huge but I don't earn a lot of money.

This but unironically.

Buelligan

I'd like to know as well, if that helps.  My interest has been piqued.

The anti-semitism thing must have the Tories laughing their asses off. The party of actual anti-semites spreads a lie and everyone goes "sure". It's been a very weird thing to witness.

holyzombiejesus

Would it be worth printing this (or one of the dozens of similar things online) and handing them out to people who regurgitate the AS bollocks?
