Yeah, yeah, XKCD...

So, there you go. Can you think of any films that fit the criteria? (suppose we can loosen the 21st century requirement, if you wish)

After a bit of head scratching, I'll pick Bunraku (2010)
A highly stylised martial art/western revenge flick. Kinda like the Sin City films but colourful instead of gritty.

Rotten Tomatoes very unfairly gives it 17% (49% Audience) It's not perfect, but it's not that bad!

I genuinely like the first two Resident Evil films. 35% and 20% respectively

I was surprised at how highly rated the Dawn of the Dead remake and Dog Soldiers were. 59% and 79%!!

Cross-posting this from the other thread, but to raise the bar to movies that I not only like but think are all-time classics, Birth (2004) has a 38% critic score, 43% audience score.

Kelvin

I like Batman v Superman, think it's an interesting film that just fails to come together, and is, without question, actively terrible in parts. Nice visuals, good Batman for the most part, and I like the thematic stuff they were aiming for.

I suppose I'd say the same for The Last Jedi, actually. Another film that doesn't hang together and has lots of very big problems, but which I still like more than it's predecessor, due to it actually trying - and partially succeeding at - something more ambitious and thematically interesting. Last Jedi isn't considered a complete joke in the way that BvS is though, so I'm not sure it it counts for this thread.

Great film

I remember enjoying that as a kid.

Speaking of Eddie Murphy and kids films...

The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002)
Could have been a great kids film, but for some reason they loaded it up with swearing. Still, I liked the setting. 4% on RT

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/john_carpenters_ghosts_of_mars (21%)

... with an honourable mention ...

https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/john_carpenters_vampires (39%; but, 1998 - but my definition of "adult life" may diverge from Monroe's - and I'm not sure I really like like it)

Piggyoioi

Took me a while to find one but - Fandango - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1007073_fandango

Really good road movie with a great soundtrack. Worth checking out

greenman

Birth mentioned in the other thread with 38% is the obvious one.

Push it back a little further and I remember Peter Weller in Screamers being quite fun despite a 31% rating.

Certainly I think it has the advantage of having some actively good parts to in(mostly involving Kylo) where as Force Awakens was wall to wall mediocrity.

Shit Good Nose

Well, pretty much everything made before 2010 (possibly even bring that forward to as recent as 2015) is now unpopular for one woke reason or another.

Can't enjoy The Cannonball Run any more cos Burt Reynolds quacks like a duck at two voluptuous women?

FUCK OFF!!!!!!!!

...sorry, I'll stop going on about it now, and I know that's not what this thread is about.

Also, LOADS of people love Hudson Hawk and have for years, to the point where it probably far exceeded its initial cult status 20+ years ago.

Bobtoo

I liked Sex Lives of the Potato Men but it appears to have an audience rating of 61%! 0% on the Tomatometer though.

The point of the thread was films you like that have bad rotten tomato scores, not films you like that no-ones else does

Also https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/southland_tales

38% but still more interesting than most films with solid scores

McChesney Duntz

Oh, De Palma, that's an easy choice - Femme Fatale is hovering at 49%, and it's pretty brilliant, so that.

Icehaven

Love, Honour and Obey (2001), 25%. I think I'm one of about no people who genuinely love this film. It's a misunderstood subtle spoof of the Guy Richie Brit gangster genre, which was then dragged down by comparison with the rightly panned Final Cut from the same cast and crew, but it's massively better. And Jude Law and Johnny Lee Miller are both in it, oh yes.

Yeah that's a solid film and I remember it getting pretty good reviews when it came out, talking about a return to form etc

That was the one I instantly thought of, it's batshit crazy but a film I admire a great deal.

Three And Out - 17% with the critics and 40% of the audience, it's an odd couple friendship movie but I thought it was fairly fun, both Mackenzie Crook and Colm Meaney are decent in it, while Gemma Arterton does the romance interest thing pretty well too.

the ouch cube

The big screen Miami Vice (2006), 46% on RT, a rare thriller which shows you what it might be like being on an undercover mission as opposed to telling you; hence it is only about one-third comprehensible for that very reason, the protagonists don't really know what's going on either.

I often mention this one.  Love it to bits, I just wish it hadn't torpedoed Terry Zwigoff's career.

Yeah, that's a great little film and it's strange that it screwed him over in such a way.

Not seen it since release but I remember it being enjoyable enough thriller if rather more slight(not that Mann is ever that weighty) than Heat or Collateral, probably suffered from a combination of that comparison and being a little bit too early with the 80's revivalism.

Had a quick look, Nick Broomfield's Fetishes is decent and that has 50%, but turns out I only like films that other people seem to actually enjoy. Which is the opposite of my real experience.

zomgmouse

According to Wikipedia the film Problem Child has a 0% rating - I saw this as a kid and thought it was great! Really quite dark for a kids' film. Also this is the film they are showing in the cinema at the start of the Scorsese version of Cape Fear.

Likewise I remember rather enjoying the Benigni Pinocchio film.

Sorry - as some know I have a MASSIVE bugbear with the increasing amount of militancy a lot of people have with regard to films and TV shows, particularly those made in the 60s and 70s, that don't meet up-to-the-minute woke standards, and would rather they were wiped from the face of the earth, pretend they never existed and demonise everyone that still admits to liking them, than acknowledge it's a case of "different times" and just move on.

This thread (or rather the title - I acknowledged I knew the thread wasn't anything about this), unfortunately, coincided with a...few ciders, a conversation with someone who took umbrage to the fact that I love The Cannonball Run (with the aforementioned moment in his eyes being tantamount to Burt Reynolds actually raping someone), a couple of articles linked to on here in other threads about why certain people working in the entertainment industry should be cancelled, and a piece I saw on TV about Phoebe Waller-Bridge being on board for Bond and why only women should be allowed to write for the series from now on.

It was a perfect storm, and this thread just happened to be the straw that broke the...storm's back.  And I don't even like James Bond.

I'm sorry.  I promise I'm not going to mention it again.  At least not on CaB...

yeah but who are you talking about, a few magazine writers/journalists? just get over it, nobody gives a damn which films you enjoy

that Cannonball Run person just sounds like an idiot

there's a lot of woke shit going around but this flat-out isn't happening
