if they're all it, the elites, all the big boys, why aren't they just like yeah we love shagging kids. what is anyone gonna do about it. if it comes out that king andrew or whatever loves shagging kids and he's just like yeah i love shagging kids what can you actually do about it. just be like damn andrew you gotta stop this business mate. and he's like no, make me. the cops are all like he's the king lads can't do nothing. we'd just be like damn. do a big protest and they're just like yes we see your big protest but we really like shagging kids so we aren't going to stop. they got all the bombs and planes. we might be able to get maybe one small bomb and they'll just fly away from it. nothing you can do.

Isn't this what's actually happening here?

Yep. Well, strictly speaking, a German speaker would pronounce it Vineschtine, but I'm not expecting everyone to adopt das deutsche Alphabet.

Ultimately, I guess it's inevitable that these types of names would become Anglicised over time (indeed, there are obvious points in history where a family of German descent might have wanted their surname to sound a little less Teutonic). Still pretty annoying though.

I thought so. Are some people prounouncing it Epsteen, then? What wankers. Gravesteen.

Isn't it the same spelling but a German vs Jewish pronunciation?

I've only ever seen it spelled Epstein, but didn't realise anyone would think to not pronounce it to rhyme with Frankenstein. It's probably nonce pronunciation. Prononceiation (is what Epstein did before he got caught at it).

Which living person enjoys snagging kids the most?

kittens

according to my independent research, it seems that the living person who enjoys shagging kids the absolute most of everyone (and they really really love shagging kids an awful lot) is you.

You're probably onto something here...

Quote from: https://www.nytimes.com/1983/12/25/magazine/on-language-stine-or-steen.htmlA pattern is seen by John Algeo, professor of English at the University of Georgia. ''The German names are usually pronounced with an eye sound. Most of the Jewish names have had the American influence of the ee sound, as in the words weird or receive, particularly that ei after the letter c.'' Professor Algeo notes that, in Yiddish, a sound change occurred, with the ei pronounced as a long a, as in stain, but changed in American-influenced Yiddish to ee. ''The ending of stein, pronounced steen,'' he concludes, ''reflects an American influence.''

I always blithely assumed that was the case, but I'd never looked into it. Thanks!

They've probably paid to try out every other sexual fantasy, so I guess if fucking kids is the only thing left on the table, then they'll pick up a knife and fork.

What's the most grotesque fantasy an adult person can legally partake in?

I would say lawnmower sex in private.

QuoteIt comes amid reports that one of Epstein's guards working on the night he died wasn't a regular prison officer.

Hey new guy! We have a prisoner in one of these cells who looks just like you...

Noonling

I'm currently leaning towards him still being alive, purely on the basis that no "in the event of my death" documents have been released and from the sounds of it he loved having dirt on people.

Super scared of going to prison? Pick up a Get Out of Jail Free card.

Cuellar

Why would 'they' conspire to keep him alive? Have everyone believe he's dead but keep him in a secret prison somewhere?

Ferris

I massively doubt he's alive. If you're a powerful mega-nonce why bump him (or his body double?) off? It's all of the downside (suspicious and highly publicized) and none of the "good" (you, the nonce, are now in the clear).

Unless it's something Epstein arranged for himself? In which case I have to put down my tinfoil hat and get off the Conspiracy-Express because it didn't sound like he had a powerful network of people working on his behalf based on press coverage, how quickly he was indicted, and how easily he was apprehended.

FTFY... because they found they couldn't disable his "dead man's handle" dox-drop?

Slightly annoyed it's not a poll option, tbh.

Yes, I was saying he did it himself, not that "They" did it. He must have had some sway at least back in the day, considering he was indicted in 2006 for only "one count of felony solicitation of prostitution", was allowed to leave jail on "work release" which he wasn't eligible for. The first investigation into him was in 2005.

To clarify I'm keeping an open mind. Hey, I'm even open to the possibility that its all an unfortunate coincidence and he committed suicide while prison staff were overworked!

Sorry if I'm missing something, but what do you mean "how quickly he was indicted"?

Pseudopath

I wouldn't be surprised if they just let him fly back to his island to carry on as normal. It's not as if anyone but his clients would ever know.

As in - the FBI and NYPD broke down the door of his mansion to find evidence, and he flew into a private airport and was immediately arrested. If I thought there was any chance whatsoever of actually facing justice, then I wouldn't fly back and get into the back of the federal marshal's van (especially if I owned a private jet and hundreds of millions of dollars). I'd go on "holiday" somewhere with no US extradition treaty, and spend lots of money on lawyers to fight any extradition attempts.

If he was a powerful man with high up connections, I'd expect the investigation into him to be stymied at all levels and charges to be quietly downgraded or dropped. He was in handcuffs and stuck in federal prison with parole denied so it was clear he was for the high jump this time.

Ambient Sheep

It'd be funny if he grew out a moustache in a feeble attempt at disguise and then got arrested under suspicion of being Lord Lucan...

Assuming he is dead what happens to all his money? Considering the situation it's unlikely they would honour his will. Should go towards compensating victims but obviously that would only be a fraction.

Ferris

Although to add - I'm not having a pop at you (or anyone) for keeping an open mind to the possibility, just that it's not for me based on what I've read

Witness protection in South America?

amputeeporn

I think my broad feeling is that he skated in the past because he was some kind of intelligence asset. Perhaps he played his last trump card then?

On the other hand, we know he was well connected and mingled a lot, but is there any real proof he liked to gather blackmail material? And surely since he sullied his name the high profile friends have been staying away in droves? It seems that in public at least, even Maxwell had moved out of his life. He might not have ever been sitting on That Hard Drive Full of Evidence.

My inclination is that he was dangerous to some connected people and 'allowed' to take his own life.

But I also feel like it is a possibility that he was never the Sex Ring Master we think of. That he was a monstrous abuser of young women personally, and perhaps occasionally with his mega rich friends, but that after getting lucky and manipulating his way out of the first case - everything went south. His friends all vanished, and he never actually had a load of dirt on them...

Was the recent arrest for NEW crimes? Or some attempt to make up for the fiasco of the last trial?

Aside from all of this, I find it very disturbing that Maxwell has disappeared. Surely the authorities should know at least what country she's in by tracing her passport? I know they say they THINK the UK, but given the fucking circumstances...

Ferris

The only evidence that he collected blackmail stuff is from interviews with him and sworn testimony from Giuffre's civil case against Maxwell. There's never been a trove of stuff discovered, but based on that it seems possible that he was collecting the information as a form of protection. Could all be a huge bluff of course.

The recent arrest was based on new charges, though he has already struck a (crooked as fuck) deal with federal prosecutors back in 2008 so I'm not sure if he'd even be pursued at a federal level. He could be liable for state crimes (though you could make a double jeopardy defence argument for that if you were a slippery lawyer) but the fact he was arrested by federal authorities and held in federal prison means its likely he was being prosecuted federally. I'm not a lawyer, but I think her have a decent shout of "Ive done my time already" so it wasn't exactly hopeless for him from a legal standpoint (although like I say, what do I know?)
