I think they were criticized for mixing Love too loud so went back to the sonics of the period. Pepper was explicitly mixed to George Martin's 1967 blueprint.

That's my problem with it. Don't we already have that? Since Martin himself did it, like. Sure there's some stuff they could do better now, but... again, the traditional, original version(s) are out there, I wish they'd be a bit more cavalier with the mixing.

Though this Abbey Road set pleases me more than Pepper, which seemed louder in the Loudness War sense (I don't have that complaint with Love, incidentally)
