I see you wincing at this post. I saw you wincing at the thread title as you snorted with a "let's see what this cunt has to say about these cunts then" glint in your eye. Well you can FUCK OFF.

Arctic Monkeys are a fantastic band. I daresay that across the last decade and a half, they have - and before you kick off at this like "WELL I DON'T LIKE THEM SO I HAVE TO BROADLY DISAGREE WITH YOU BY SIMPLY SAYING I THINK THEY'RE SHITE" please keep it in your fucking pants and try to view the situation with a BIT of fucking OBJECTIVITY - they've been consistently the best modern British band. Tell me, since the flare-up of the indie scene in the mid-noughties, who else is left? Who, even of the more promising heads in that scene, even lasted anywhere past the second album? Franz Ferdinand? Have a word. Kasabian? Get fucked.

Yes, Alex Turner has a whiff of Gallagher brothers about him in that you could easily brush off AMs as being media darlings with little substance to prop them up. Well if you said that you'd be fucking WRONG. Their knack for infectious hooks coupled with Turner's knowingly sharp wit has rarely faltered across their six albums, which have often bemused critics, alienated fans, or both. After the bucket-hat-and-Strongbow-Dark-Fruit appeasing sultry simplicity of AM, which I myself had wrongly dismissed until quite recently, absolutely no fucker was expecting the follow up five years later to be a ludicrously indulgent lounge-pop concept album about a fucking hotel in space. And that album is the absolute TITS mate.

I remember a decade back hearing "Crying Lightning" after having grown rather tired of their sharper first two albums and being enamoured by how strikingly different it was. Humbug is probably still my favourite album of theirs for this reason, historically. It is fantastic, honestly. Go and listen to it. At least go and listen to "Cornerstone" or "Secret Door". No I'm not linking them, do it your bastard self. I owe you slimy Beatle-cocksuckers absolutely nothing.

I will concede that I've not revisited Suck It And See in a very long time, and only the memories of the big hits of the Whatever People Say I Am... are lingering to remind me how much of a cracker it is, but the other four, I know it for sure. They're superb. I can say with a smile that the hype is justified for Arctic Monkeys, they deserve it all.

bgmnts I'll permit you to breeze through and call them vacuous gobshites or whatever but no one else is allowed to say a bad word. Only praise is allowed in this thread. Thanks and go shag yourselves.

I like the way they play a different riff with the same notes in the same order in Teddy Picker and he sings "another variation on a theme" but on the whole they dove off a huge cliff after getting mangled by Josh Homme's Serious Band Production and have become actively loathsome on that last album where they basically unfurled a huge flag that says I HATE YOU ALL.

I'm listening to it now, because I am in a hotel for a conference. I find it quite monotonous and boring. Yet, I am in an Ibis.

Which hotel are you in, though?

I never really liked them but Hotel Tranquility Base & Casino is a great album.

They've become my favourite "modern" group in the last few years.

Having said that I only like about 5 songs from "Humbug" it's a bit "Look at me with the big rock man"

I saw them at the O2 last year and their audience around where I was did not like the new songs. They would film the songs they knew and then sit down and look at their phones during anything from "TBH+C"

Listened to Cornerstone and Secret Door as suggested. I know negativity is banned so I'll just say that music taste is a very subjective thing.

I can't even muster an opinion on Arctic Monkeys.

I agree with Alan in that I think Humbug is their best album. Alex Turner appears to have turned into such an insufferable coked-up pastiche of a rock star these days though that I find it hard to stomach them, although the soundtrack he did for the film Submarine is lovely.
