Can you name a game that had a physical release that you bet nobody else here has heard of?

My entry is The Shepherd for Amiga. Sheep + Populous, basically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4-og44vNEs

(it wasn't always public domain, it's lying)

Another Amiga Classic which I walked in to see my dad and his mate Pete playing, cackling with laughter: Dirty Moves

Avril Lavigne

Tribal Rage from 1998 maybe?  It was a Real Time Strategy game very much in the vein of Command & Conquer, but it was more overtly a 'comedy' game and had six different playable factions including 'Trailer Trash' which featured a dual-uzi-wielding Elvis impersonator.  The CD & jewel case inserts were made to resemble a cheeseburger so that taking the disc out was like opening the bun up and removing the beef patty.  That was far more entertaining than the game itself.

seepage

I bought Tribal Rage (in a 'normal' box) on the strength of it being published by TalonSoft, but with hindsight their previous games were a bit weak as well.

I'll start off with The SURGEON from 1987 for the Amiga. mrs seepage liked it so I bought her a proper copy - priced at £69.99.

Cuellar

Deadline from 1995/6 ish? Like Rainbow Six, but from a birdseye view. Equip your team, plan their route into a hostage situation, inevitably have the plan go absolutely tits up, start blasting, get told off by the head of MI5 or whoever.

Great fun, but impossible.

This one has a mild amount of infamy on Youtube - there's some (attempted) playthroughs and whatnot on there. Here's one example video:

The good thing about this thread is that nobody knows what anybody is referring to and so you don't get any of that pesky conversation stuff that clutters up all the other threads. All nice and cold.

Please don't interrupt.

Operation Bodycount.

Think that game would be #cancelled nowadays.

Shit Good Nose

Bud The Chud on the Amiga, based on the film that didn't even get a release AT ALL in this country until years later.

I know it wasn't one of those Freeware things you bought from the back of Amiga mags as I got it from Antics in Bristol (they had a smaller but more eclectic selection of Amiga games than nearby Virgin Megastore, HMV and whatever GAME used to be called, and, amazingly, are still in business in exactly the same shop to this day).  It was a fiver to buy, or you got it free with a selection of other titles.  I got mine free with either Heimdall, WWF Wrestlemania or Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (I can't remember which as they were all around the same time).

It was a mediocre side-scroller with some RPG elements where you had to kill military men and collect other CHUDs along the way, and also rope in "normals" to help you.  From memory it was little more than a reskin of that Simpsons game where you had to jump on aliens disguised as townfolk.

If this question had come up 10 years ago I'd have also thrown in Pyjamarama on the Spectrum as I never met a single other gamer who had ever heard of it let alone played it, but in the last few years it's had a lot of mentions on the internet and several playthroughs on YouTube.  Bud The Chud, on the other hand, I can't even find a single Google hit...

lazarou

Last Battle wasn't a rare game for the megadrive, where it got by as a entirely humdrum and bowlderised reskin of Fist Of The North Star, but the version I had was. The big-box full price 1991 c64 port, bought in an apparent fit of madness during a rare trip to the big city. One of the last c64 games by Elite systems and staggeringly rare these days on account of being utter, utter shite only ever released at full price for a dying system. It'd be worth something if it had any merit at all, but it seems to be both incredibly hard to come by and when it does, no-one cares.

buzby

Rally Championships by Flair, from 1994

An isometric rally game, ripped off from the Gaelco World Rally coin-op (as were the later editions of Visco's Drift Out series of games for the SNES and Neo Geo). It was released for both Amiga (4 floppies, or 7 floppies for the AGA version and also CD32) and PC (CD-ROM, which included the game music as CD-DA Red Book tracks - if you installed it on your HD, you could put any audio CD in the drive and use that as music instead).

I had the PC version and it was pretty decent, the closest you could get to the Gaelco coin-op (which at the time were all dying due to suicide battery issues - thankfully Gaelco released the binary for it's decryption chip a few years ago so long-dead boards can now be revived).

The Big One for Windows 3.x, SWFTE International Ltd. 1994. The Big One is a simulation of the effects of an earthquake in Los Angeles! Restore order and repair damage by commanding units of police cars, fire trucks etc.

Not so much as an image, or one of those Youtube people laughing at it, or anything. Are you 100% sure you're not remembering something else?

Positive, as I saw the film a few years later when I still had the game in my possession.

Given Antics were selling it new for a fiver, I've no doubt it was a budget game, and lord knows enough of those came out in the 90s that disappeared without trace pretty much as soon as they hit the shelves - Neighbours (yes, a game of the Aussie soap) for example.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKGeu_fgM40 - someone playing "Neighbours" (it looks like Bouncer is taking down your health, I can only see the thumbnail thanks to work's PCs). Significantly more trace than "Bud The C.H.U.D."

I've got a box full of unopened copies of Danny Duster's Dirty Deeds in my loft. Beat that!

You didn't see the episode of Neighbours where Bouncer kept depleting Cody's health until she started flashing and disappeared?

I remember the one where Bouncer licked Mrs Mangel's face when she was supposed to be unconscious and she started laughing.

I really want to play Bud The CHUD now. I might go and watch the movie again tonight, cos it's fun as hell.

The promotional game for Kröd Mändoon, called "Kröd Mändoon: The Rise of Dongalor", made by me and PixelJam, and lost entirely to time. I don't think a single living person has a copy of it, despite it being a viral Flash game.

If it's any consolation I found the Shockwave file of the 'Play Now' rollover on archive.org. Unfortunately clicking it yields nowt.

Hah, appreciate it. Thanks!

I would like to revisit it. I wasn't involved in the planning or design of it, and the artist did some really interesting Gilliam-esque stuff.

I have never ever met a single person who has played the original Unreal from 1998 and if I ever do I'll rip their face off because I MUST be the only one
