The University of Twente shortwave receiver website. A great site to spend hours on this, reminds me of the old days of the internet when you'd stumble across interesting sites like this all the time.

I've got very little technical knowledge regarding any of this. I used to muck about with a CB as a kid in the early 90's and it was like a proto version of social media/the internet, full of weirdos and nonces. Amateur usage of the radio waves has probably diminished greatly since the dawn of the www but you can still dial through on this site and hear some strange things.

I'm hoping there will be people on here with knowledge of this, and it would be good to hear some opinions of the current state of shortwave radio.

There was a similar thread a few years ago. Maybe it was listening in to aliens online though.

Shortwave is dying, but there's a lot of value in the history, catching what's left of it and the general aesthetic of it all.
