QuoteThe man who hoaxed detectives by claiming to be the Yorkshire Ripper has died, police have confirmed.

John Humble, who was dubbed Wearside Jack, sent police on a wild goose chase when he sent them hoax letters and an audio tape in the late 1970s.

He's in heaven now, distracting God from smiting the wicked.

He's probably lying and has actually come alive. "Pulled a Frampton"

King of the pranksters. RIP sweet prince.

Fucking hell, I assumed he died in jail, but he'd been out of prison ten years! I could have sworn they only caught him a few years ago.

Whatever else you can say, he had musical taste.  Try telling me this is NOT a catchy little tune.

It's not him that's dead, it's really Peter Sutcliffe.

I remember reading that Jonathan King wanted to release the "Ripper Tape" as a single, and on blood red vinyl too, but someone talked him out of it.

'Lord, you are no nearer catching me now,' he said in the tape.  The Lord's definitely got him now.
