He absolutely loves doing all that. Bitching about people, with an audience booing and cheering to order, pure heaven for the guy.

How's he going to cope when he eventually leaves office?

Vegas residency

I can't imagine a more suiting location for him, the tawdry little pud

That was gonna be my guess too, a few attempts at continuing to do the rallies regardless to decreasing crowds, followed by some kind of vegas residency TV show crossover thing.

Trump is very directly the reason why babies are being killed in foreign lands.

Trump couldn't make it in Vegas given who his base is. He will be doing a residency in Branson, MO right across from Yakov Smirnov.

Interesting article here that points out that the Dems don't actually need two-thirds of The Senate to convict (67) but two-thirds of those present in the chamber when the vote is taken.

So, as an extreme example, if 30 Reps stayed away on voting day that would give the Dems (more than) two-thirds of those Senators present and they could convict him.

Is this common knowledge? It's new to me. Will any Reps go down this route? Maybe they will if they can find a way of presenting their action as somehow *ahem* brave? or patriotic? or... I dunno.

A little more reason for hope, perhaps.

The problem is McConnell is going to make sure nobody will be an absentee beforehand. And it will be the same threats if you were to vote for impeachment anyway. It's better to be present and then surprise everyone by voting against Trump ala McCain voting against the Obamacare repeal. It makes you look like a hero.

Trump praises and defends a war criminal, and Bill Kristol objects to his tweet in the dumbest possible way:

There's a clip on Twitter of a well known Syrian peace activist gettin' raped (Then murdered) by Turkish troops - it's truly horrible. You might want to avoid it.

Also good to signpost that the Kurdish activist is Hervin Khalaf, as her name is mentioned in the tweets and displayed in some of the videos. Just so you know when it's coming (and when to close the page).

Kurds have it fucking rough as fuck.

Have Turkey admitted culbability for the Armenian genocide yet? I don't get the feeling Turkey care much about international reputation.

I hope Trump gets stranded there on a diplomatic mission and gets Gadaffi'd.

This is pure sadism from the US. They literally convinced the kurds to turn over some of their weaponry as "a show of good fairh" not too long ago. And to think there is an actual possibility of this monster being more or less democratically elected for a second term ... mind boggling. How can any sane person stand to live there?

And this will all be blamed on Trump, as if Hillary Clinton and her ilk give two shits about anyone but themselves. All so that "real patriots" in the intelligence community can wash their hands of it and appear on "liberal" CNN and receive backpats from Anderson Cooper.

SIR HAVE YOU NO DECENCY SIR? We're here with Gina Haspel, who was "mortified" by Trump's decision. Gina, good to have you with us - can you tell us a bit about how it was being the first female CIA director?

If the media in the US were anything other than propaganda they would start looking at Turkish lobbyism and corruption the same way they have with Russian influence. But that's not going to happen because then you would implicate plenty of the same people crying crocodile tears right now, and who has been up in arms about hiw the Kremlin bought the election and similar invented red herrings.

Erdogan seems to live a charmed life, getting everything he wants. This has got to be more than well placed bribes in western nations, surely.

One of the stupider things is that Russiagaters have latched onto both the USA and Russia vetoing a UN resolution on Turkey as just another sign on collusion. Rather than USA and Russia trying to separately facilitate their own relationship goals with Turkey. The problem is Turkey looks like that it wants to annex parts of Syria so is Putin going to betray Assad?

Kryton

Some really shocking videos emerging of the situation around the Turkish border. Bound Kurdish captives being executed. Journalists being attacked etc.

From what I've heard the Kurds have no struck a deal with Assad and the Syrian army are now approaching the Turkish border. But the US (despite being attacked by Turkey in one specific situation) are trying to prevent the Syrians from approaching. It's a fucking mess. Don't forget that Iran and Russia still support the Syrian regime.

For those interested in the Ukraine stuff, this guy (Murray Waas) has written a few non-hyperbolic summaries of the background facts in the New York Review of Books, the latest here: https://www.nybooks.com/daily/2019/10/08/ukraine-continued-the-key-witness-who-was-allowed-escape/

Successful at playing the US, European states, and Russia against one another?

He's a fascist who doesn't like Iran. Those are the only necessary criteria for Middle Eastern leaders to get the support of the U.S. government.

The other problem is Erdogan can be diplomatic, competent and cunning. He has a base that would like to Make Turkey the Ottaman Empire Again so we'll see how far he goes.

Trump is putting sanctions and tariffs on Turkey. Will Erdogan care?

They will not impeach Trump. This is all noise.

Seems like they will absolutely impeach him (more than 228 house members are on the record as in favour of voting for impeachment though presumably that depends on what is found in the investigation), though the senate will almost definitely not vote to convict.

I watched King of Comedy last night and Trump shares a lot of mannerisms with Rupert Pupkin, as well as other traits such as levels of self-awareness, grandiose ideas of their own ability and the knack of being elevated to levels much higher than their competency would suggest based on law-breaking and an ability to ride the wave of controversy

House votes to condemn Trump's withdrawal.

Well, as long as they condemn it.

Now the president seems to think that America and Italy have ties that go back 1000s of years to the Roman Empire.

I've seen comments that compare the President with Caligula and Nero, but as someone who specialises in Julio-Claudian Rome, I disagree. Dude is way more like Didius Julianus, a wealthy senator who bought the imperial title at what pretty much amounted to an auction. He had no real prior political experience and lasted about 9 weeks before the Senate had enough and did away with him.
