TRUMP No. 9: A weird fucking bumble hex

This seems pretty damaging more so than the Russiagate collusion claims and probably the obstruction claims too. The GOP must've thought they could whitewash this or that they could take Biden down as well

I highly doubt anything substantive comes of this, and we've had 5,000 scandals this far into the presidency, but Trump did look truly pathetic at the press conference earlier which is something of a new development. First law of Bully Logic is that you cannot look pathetic to your flock.

Wow, you're not wrong. He sounded like he was about to cry throughout the bit I saw. I wasn't paying attention to the Ukraine thing cos it just sounded like the latest 'scandal' that would be forgotten the next news cycle (and chances are it still will be) but he looked and sounded unprecedentedly shaken up. Kind of weird. Why has this affected him this way? On paper the Ukraine thing doesn't sound any different from the usual kind of dirty tricks he's accused of and can just blithely handwave away.

Paul Calf

Possibly because he can actually be impeached. For the very first time in his life, he's going to have to face the consequences of something that he's done. When you grow up a cosseted rich little boy with daddy's money to waste and employees and creditors to bear the brunt of your misinformed, short-sighted decisions, opportunities to appreciate the supposedly reciprocal nature of karma do not come often.

I think it's because this one was caught by a whistleblower so it feels more of a scandal than his usual impeachable offences which he does right out in the open. It does look like the usual playbook of 'getting ahead of the story' has massively backfired in this case though. Still think nothing will happen, but a year of impeachment hearings in the run up to to 2020 can't hurt, as long as they don't pick fucking Biden as the nominee of course.

You'd have to think Biden is done within the DNC at this point though? Regardless of what happened in Ukraine, it's the kind of shit that'll follow him through the campaign and leave a huge stench. Why waste energy on him when they could just refocus on Harris?  Warren's looking like she could be pretty malleable too so why bother fighting her momentum when you could just twist her?

Unless they're concerned he'll be a petty fucker and take a dump on everyone if he isn't given as much of a chance as possible.

Cuellar

Might give him some cred - 'He's the man Trump's DEEP STATE DOESN'T WANT'

As people are saying, he's shaken because he has no control over the narrative with this one, it's been sprung on him and it sounds like the rest of the complaint may well be just as damning so there will be even more shit coming his way. Also with impeachment proceedings all the dickhead moves his little cronies use to try and slowball testifying will not work so they can crack on with publicly displaying not only this whistleblower complaint, but also about half a dozen other things that are impeachable that have been investigated at a snails pace by various committees so far.

They pushed Hillary Clinton last time.

The Big Boy has now insinuated that whoever was on the Ukraine call and raised concerns about it later is a "spy" who should be executed.

All perfectly normal.

Volker the Ukraine envoy resigns after Guiliani reads out text messages claiming Volker asked Guiliani to talk to Ukraine. Sacrificial lamb? Quit to spill? Getting out before the shit hits the fan and the first of many?

I think it's possible this actually goes somewhere. Trump might not go but a lot of other people may leave.

steve98

The whistle-blower's opened a Pandora's Box and all the shit in the world's pouring out. He's fucked.

amputeeporn

Something feels seriously different about this one. Whether it's true or not, I don't know - but I spoke with a bestselling American author yesterday who has written in this area - and he said his sources indicated this shit was as serious as it gets.

Mainly, for me, I've never seen Trump give a conference like that recent one. He really does seem afraid, on the edge of tears, an almost apologetic, softened tone of voice. Really weird.

If it doesn't do for him, I think it sure won't help.

This will be exactly the same old shit. And hey, to make sure it isn't - if Trump suffers more than a 5 point drop in his approval rating before Christmas (per FiveThirtyEight), I'll donate $50 to a US charity of your choice. If he doesn't (and he won't), I'll donate it to the Sick Kids charity in Toronto.

Currently at 53.2 disapprove, 42.8 approve.

If we get to 58.2 disapprove by Dec 25, then those yankee kids will be quids in. If not, it'll be our home-grown unfortunates who get the monster windfall.

Edit: don't let me get away with this. I won't remember to check, so sure am I in my arrogance. Remind me, and demand screenshots of the receipt or I'll forget.

Impeachment would be unprecedented. Won't happen.
Resigning because of the deep state and the swamp. If it get's too much work for Trump I see it as a possibility.

The bad news is Russiagate has new life.

If he resigns, I'll donate $200 extra to a US charity of your choice.

There's no way it'll happen, so the yankee unfortunates will remain destitute for now. It's like betting that an asteroid will hit the cheap seats in a trump rally. It's possible, but the laws of reality make it vanishingly unlikely.

Trump is so pathologically narcissistic that he personally altered a hurricane map with a marker instead of admitting that he momentarily misspoke. He's not going to voluntarily resign.

Urinal Cake

When has Trump taken the 'hard way' in anything in his life? He couldn't even be bothered to get a whiteout pen to doctor a map.

He'll ask everybody else to take fall but the Dems have a hate-boner for Trump so maybe they'll try to see him off. He would rather resign rather than face long public uncomfortable embarrassment.

But Trump would try a comeback. He'd have to get the MAGA crowd essentially rioting due to a deep state plot. Then get MAGA to try and reinstate him on the GOP ticket. Or he could say the GOP is corrupt and run as a third party candidate.

I agree Trump resigning would be rare but it is possible.

Mister Six

Does anyone have a link to the clip of Trump looking miserable? I could do with a dose of schadenfreude.

steve98

McConnell's just said he won't block the trial if Trump's impeached.

Quote from: @realDonaldTrumpTo show you how dishonest the LameStream Media is, I used the word Liddle', not Liddle, in discribing Corrupt Congressman Liddle' Adam Schiff. Low ratings @CNN
purposely took the hyphen out and said I spelled the word little wrong. A small but never ending situation with CNN!

How does putting an apostrophe (or a hyphen) after a misspelled word make it correct?

Can anyone explain in three sentences or less what exactly he's done now that's so bad?

I don't understand or know enough to understand.

Alberon

Congress will agree to Impeach. The trial is then held in the Senate where he will be acquitted.

But it probably won't get that far, the investigation will blight the rest of this term and he will be throwing anyone and everyone under the bus to wriggle free. I honestly can't see him resigning and if he loses next year then he'll claim the election was stolen rather than admitting he failed.

He's tried to get a foreign government to investigate one of his possible rivals in next year's presidential election. So undermining American democracy.

I just hope it takes his toll and we can enjoy his miserable confused drug-addled and more and more incoherent last few days. It's no more than he deserves.

How is it more damaging than the Russian stuff? Genuine question here, I want to understand why the Ukraine stuff has him shitting himself whereas Russia was easily handwaved away. The accusations sound about the same to me, but I'm not the best informed.

Look out for the odd Carl Sagan-esque emphasis on 'millions and millions' early on.

Alberon

Cos he's on tape blackmailing Ukraine to dig up dirt on Biden.

With Russia they were willing to get information from Putin, but were too inept to manage it.
