Speaking of which; Yoshi's Island is nothing special. As far as I know, Miyamoto was misquoted about it being overshadowed by Donkey Kong Country because of graphics - which is good, because he would have been a big hypocrite if he actually had said that. It's a bog standard platformer with some flashy graphics.

And the crying Mario noise is purest hatred.

I like it just fine. It's not some genre defining masterpiece though.

Don't even get me started about Shadow of the Colossus.

Nah, Yoshi's island is pretty much a masterpiece, marred only by a couple of shit maze levels and the sections where you turn into a submarine/helicopter.

The bulk of the levels are brilliant, and it's one of the few games where collection is a pleasure. Probably the best looking 16 bit game, too.
