I've been alerted by a couple of posts on Reddit that this coming Saturday (14th September 2019), there's a task to meet up in Alex Horne's home town of Chesham at midday, have a picnic, then go on some sort of guided tour.

Sadly, although I live relatively close by, a colossal lack of funds will probably stop me going, but hopefully somebody here might have fun with it. :-)

I'd love to have gone to it, but I'm working until 1.30pm. :(

It seems a LOT of people have turned up:

One commenter estimating around a thousand, and another seemingly saying that the planned excursion (to Chesham football fields?) had to be abandoned halfway through due to the health & safety concerns of herding so many people...

and from the other thread in the post above...

Quote[...] got my book signed, found a pub, can't be bothered to climb up that hill again, that's all for today folks! (When I handed him the book he said "thanks for buying that" and instead of saying "thanks for writing it" or something, I just stood there and smiled like an idiot.)

Alex is probably regretting the whole ordeal, he's been swamped from the second he turned up. We managed to bounce a beach ball 100 times with no one person hitting it twice though, and I think he liked that bit. It took several tries and he took the piss out of his son for hitting it twice.

Video from the official Twitter account.  I originally thought the "thousand" figure was probably an exaggeration but now I don't think so:

It's also retweeting nice pictures like this:

Another update from the bowels of Reddit:

QuoteIt was too busy, we got turned away at the football club :(

Went back to the mound, eventually the tour returned. Security guard said the turnout was over ten times what they were expecting.

Would have loved to get a signed TM boardgame but oh well :(

Apparently somebody came from New York and somebody else came from Melbourne, Australia, having planned a four-week trip to Europe around it.  They both got a signed Taskmaster boardgame.

Thanks for reporting in, Ambient Sheep; I would have loved to be able to go, and I'm glad it turned into such a festive scene.

Footnote: I just stumbled across Chortle's report of the day and apparently the official attendance figure was "around 1800"!
