First post and it's a simple one. I'm currently obsessed with awful disposable tv from the 70s and 80s, you could say it's nostalgia, you could say it's hauntology..let's just say i'm fascinated by the crap we use to watch during those halcyon tv daze..so please link me your preferred poison when it comes to naff retro tv..Here's something to get you started..nice to see you..

My favourite was the Breakout computer game round (a third the way in). See they even ran out of ideas back in the old days.

3-2-1 really is the cream of the crud. Ted Rogers going hardcore with a Ronnie Biggs joke in his opening monologue.

3-2-1: one of the worst sketches ever done anywhere ever:

https://youtu.be/gXt1BQCiNQs?t=2415

followed in the same episode by one of the worst impressions ever done:

https://youtu.be/gXt1BQCiNQs?t=2654

Prime time Saturday night this was.

I was obsessed with the 3-2-1 Breakout game as a kid. It was my favourite round. Check out the tennis version from Bruce Forsyth's Big Night where the game was controlled by going Ooh or Ahh (32:50 in, or why not try watching the whole programme) https://youtu.be/KVl7yWRapLM

Sadly very little of Border Television's quiz Mr and Mrs has made the leap to the digital era https://youtu.be/4ZJf_cmvlNs

His ''patter style'' never really changed over the course of his career. At least you knew where you stood with Brucie.

Bergerac

About 10 years ago me and mate watched an entire series of Bergarac trying to find an episode which scared him as a kid. It was a very drab watching experience and said episode was equally as drab. But you can't fault that theme tune.

OH MY WORD. From the ''Carry on Cowboy'' school of western authenticity. Is Beryl inebriated or just wondering where her career was going? And could they not afford the real Ronnie? That impression was shockingly bad.

Fires in the Fall.

Please head over to my "the melancholy of Bergerac" thread to see why "drab" is way off piste

Hah love the username.

Someone made another thread concerning a youtube channel created by a fella by the name of Laff Lord...search for him and have a look at his channel; hes uploaded a ridiculous amount of full episodes for comedies from the last 4 decades...its been great fun to pick one at whim and watch a few episodes. The shitter and naffer the show the more fascinating I find it...The advert breaks have been left in and everything its incredible.

So the prizes for the computer game round were a TV set and a stretcher? Blimey. At least that lady got a fish supper. I was waiting for the numbers to spring off Theresa style on the Mr and Mrs money board.

Where is that thread, good sir? I'm ready to eat my hat and feast on a plate of (John) Nettles.

This is the thread: https://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,74990.0.html

It shocked me that they made so many episodes of Yus My Dear.  I'd have sworn that they only made 4, or at a stretch, 6, but there's 19 of the buggers!

EDIT: Oh you mean the Bergerac thread.  I couldn've sworn your post just said "Where is the thread" when I started to write my reply.

EDIT2: To avoid wasting a post I gone and found the Bergerac thread: https://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,63625.0.html

Thanks for both threads, I should have been more clear. The Bergarac one is very good stuff indeed, going to have to re-watch and re-assess.

Looks like Atari 2600 or worse. That voice-controlled pong on Bruce's Big Night is a blast. Bruce was next level, wasn't he? Not to sidetrack the thread with more video games in quizes but here's the Irish stealing the idea in 1983: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bG3bAkyr63A (skip to 27.30).

BlodwynPig

Might have to tuck into Bergerac again as im in need of spiritual nourishment

No, i'm all for video games in retro tv..it's always a very entertaining culture clash car crash. Killer Gorilla? This is hardly Gamesmaster is it?

Here's two things of interest...The late Richard ''Ferret'' Whiteley getting typically bamboozled by the ''new'' video game fad ( THE Invaders)...and one of my fave pieces of televisual shit- the utterly dated Craig Charles presented virtual reality gameshow, Cyberzone.

That first one had me at s*****c boy. You don't get facial expressions any more like those two from 0:32 and I love the way the machine keeps throwing Whiteley off his game. I missed CyberZone. Looks like it was short lived. Can't imagine why.

Yeah, they've got classic old school constipated faces. I watched Cyberzone back in the day and it's far worse than I remember.

Is it possible to dive into Bergerac mid-series?

*gasps*

Not really but you can enjoy individual episodes if you know the character tropes well
