I characterise Bergerac into the following epochs

Series 1-2: Epoch 1 - 70s analogue bleed melancholy
Series 3-5: Epoch 2 - Nostalgic halycon daze
Series 6-8: Epoch 3 - Dark BusinessFunk
Series 9: Epoch 4 - Vineyard Death Jazz

Dont tug my heartstring.

Sun setting over t'Jersey golf course. Charlie turns to camera and winks mournfully at you. "It's all Betfred's now". He is of course a ghost. Echoes of a George Fenton jazzy synth line backed by an Andy Fraser Fender bass line drifts up from the sands

Not really but you can enjoy individual episodes if you know the character tropes well

Next time Mrs Oy is out for a night with the girls I'll whiskey up to S1E01.

The aesthetic of this post pleases me, vineyard death jazz is exceptionally poetic..my whole perspective of the Bergarac universe has been twisted on it's axis today.

That first one had me at s*****c boy. You don't get facial expressions any more like those two from 0:32 and I love the way the machine keeps throwing Whiteley off his game. I missed CyberZone. Looks like it was short lived. Can't imagine why.

Cyber Swindon highly amused me. Here's a nice piece of press from the time...and CC got there first with the whole AWOOOOOGA thing.

Anybody remember- used to watch this? Slightly flat videogame news show presented by shit Pat Sharpe without a mullet and Grimes...sorry, Violet Berlin.

Glamorgan, you might be interested in this ancient thread dedicated to awful low budget telly shows.

https://www.cookdandbombd.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,35553.0.html

This thread has a very special place in long time Cabber's hearts as it brought us the wonder that is Benests of Millbrook(and Fineprice!)

Also an update on this:

Quote from: ChriddofEventually after a while NTL got rid of this channel, which was a real shame, but there was one final excellent thing on something called "The Teaching Channel" (IIRC) - an amazingly poor low-budget attempt at a soap opera, "Chalkhill Lives". It's a bit hard to sum up in plain text just how weird it was, but it seemed to be aiming for some kind of balance between deliberate humour and serious drama, but completely failed to do either. Amongst other things there was a teenage character who was on life support, and the life support monitor bit was clearly not actually plugged in; a character rather dubiously called "The Chinaman", who gave the residents of Chalkhill free money and credit cards; a non-speaking character who always wore a hockey mask, like a benign Jason Voorhees; and one cliffhanger ending to an episode where a cat-judging contest is happening, and a man very loudly accuses a main character's cat of having worms, resulting in some kind of inexplicable mass panic with people screaming and running everywhere.

There's now a channel uploading whole episodes of this on youtube, the one I clicked had zero views which is probably the same as it had at time of broadcast.

I'm three episodes into Chalkhill Lives, it's just so amazingly ''off''. Here's more information on the genesis of this pinnacle of community television. I almost feel like this show deserves a thread of it's own if it hasn't already got one.

Yes!  Isn't it obvious? He's wearing glasses and the trademark Ronnie Corbett hat?!

I only know that it was meant to be an impression of anyone because Ted Rogers mentions Corbett when Chris Emmett comes over to read out the clue.

Roll Over Beethoven was shite.
A Bit of a Do was okay. I made it through all 3 series.
Allo Allo was awful.
Strike it Lucky was awight.
Airwolf holds up okayish.
The A Team is the same story 120 times over it's entirely.
That's My Boy ooofff!!!
Every Second Counts.
Name That Tune.
Give Us a Clue.
This is Your Life - the shite that passed for entertainment in the 80s.

Roll Over Beethoven - totally passed me by.
A Bit of a Do - same.
Allo Allo - not quite sure why this is back in fashion again but I have to admit it's a guilty pleasure..it is pretty guff.
Strike it Lucky - Barrymore carried this show and made it feel somewhat edgy with his energy.
Airwolf - Knight Rider stole it's thunder on daytime tv.
The A Team - always thought it was over-rated.
That's My Boy - thankfully i missed this.
Every Second Counts.
Name That Tune.
Give Us a Clue. - These three blend into one in my mind.
This is Your Life - never could stomach Micheal smug Aspel.

Andy Crane and Co weren't too bad there.

Does anyone know where I can source Me and My Micro, an obscure six parter all about programming basic on the zx speccy? All I can find is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSzIXg6jmZQ

There was an episode with a young chap who made tons of cash on the gee gees using a Spectrum to predict races.

Bible computing, great stuff. All hail the great Dr Plunderverse.

A notable mention has to go to one of the most pointlessly entertaining pseudo-scientific gameshows ever - The Krapton Factor. It gave us Gordon Burns, a nascent Coogan and over a million accountants who thought they were superman- superwoman. I know if started in the 80s but for me it hit it's stride in the 90s with updated computer graphics and the theme tune pumped up.

I object to The Krypton Factor being referred to as a crap show. I thought it was a pretty decent and well presented show.

I don't think The Krypton Factor is bad. I blooming love it. Do I think the aesthetic is dated and slightly naff? Yep. Only adds to it's charm.

They are an absolute joy. I assume peeps know about this (there's a thread somewheres) but if not Micro Men may be of interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXBxV6-zamM It's from 2009 but captures the era well.

Anyone for some early Nicholas Parsons? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_WrVNYO-co
