My other, better forum decided once PS had finished that there isn't one single redeemable character. I can't believe actually rooted for Mark once!

Well, April's husband is boring and Gerard is just ill. Hardly makes them irredeemable.
Also, what about Tim Key's character or the young lad who is starstruck by Jeremy?
April isn't that bad (though a bit adulterous) and I'm not sending Dobby to the electric chair, even if she is annoying.

Alright fair dos on Gerard, the historian and Sophies brother but Dobby is one of the worst!

From my viewing of that show in the 90's I had somehow remembered him as a bit revolting but ultimately lovable. I rewatched a few last year and he's actually a nasty prick, especially to Anthony.

This is my exact experience too. At least Anthony manages to break the ritual of the bullying ritual so there's some hope for the future of the Royles.

We've already had a few Human Remains characters, but what about the Welsh bloke Brydon plays in 'All Over My Glasses'? He's a cruel, exploitative bully.

He is a massive, massive cunt, rightly or wrongly.

How so? I just remember her getting pissed off with Mark.

Gerard fakes, or massively overplays his illness to gain attention from Dobby, doesn't he?

He dies later on but he smugly admins it to mark straight out as I recall.

Both Mark and Gerard are dirty dogs like Jeremy but like to pretend they're above all that. There's also no way Gerard didn't have a wank over Corfu '06

Angus the theology lecturer cheated on April and then went on a religious retreat where he was supposed to be living like a monk before April visited him and found loads of empty Nutella jars in the bins. He's another dirty dog who would have you believe he's too lofty and pure for something as base as sexual desire.

Dobby wasn't too bad until her series 8 personality transplant when she started spending more time with her ex-boyfriends than she did with Mark.

Bob Odenkirk in Larry Sanders. "That's what makes America such a great company"

Been watching that lately and have to agree. Proto-Saul, even down to the horrendous mini-mullet.

Not one mention of Porno Gil in Curb Your Enthusiasm? Started watching season 1 again last night and Gil is bad enough during the dinner but that sleazy way he looks Cheryl up and down when he welcomes her in... *shudder* He looks like he's thinking about cooking and eating her:

https://youtu.be/A7d4wBFnw7M (NSFW obviously)

Bob Odenkirk pops up in everything and he does great sleazy eye acting in everything. Even in The Incredibles 2, and that's a kid's film, and he's animated.

Hank Kingsley is also fantastically sleazy in Larry Sanders. Reacting to Gloria Steinem with "Great ass" floored me. Although Jeffrey Tambor has since been #cancelled so perhaps his sleaze wasn't all acting.

Has anyone mentioned any of Scharpling & Wurster's characters from The Best Show?

There are loads of pathetic lowlifes to choose from but I'm currently listening to a random episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saEs16rhm14) and have been reminded of how horrible Tom's work colleague Darren is. In this one phonecall, Darren reveals he's left his wife and kids for a much younger woman (his boss' daughter), spent the weekend doing coke with her, has written a song about American's "Jewish liberals", has a safe full of porn in his basement which he calls the "Spank Vault" and has kept every pair of underwear he's ever owned. And that's all from one episode - There are more revelations about him in other calls to the show.

The Gorch is an exceptionally revolting character.  I listened to his first ever episode the other day for the millionth time and still laughed my proverbial socks off. In fact, it was a shame the Gorch never "met" Avalanche Bob - That would've been comedy gold, although probably very difficult to conduct.

Hearing Hot Rockin' Ronny say "Long time, no smell" during the FMU-era Best Show intro collage is always a reminder of who disgusting he is as a character.
