Its almost 3 hours long i dont wanna get too invested if it turns out boring.

imitationleather

Yes it's really good and I don't usually like stuff.

Fry

Is Joe Pesci in it much? I love that bloke.

It's really boring, but that doesn't become apparent until about 2 hours 40 in. I'd watch it, but switch off after 2 hours 40.

Shoulders?-Stomach!

It is too long. Fairly predictable too. The intro seems never ending, just a continuous fucking montage when you actually want to get to the bit where people speak and things happen. The end is crap too.

Also it's in a casino which are shitholes

Cheers

Alberon

It's a great, but, I agree, its a predictable film. Adding the Benny Hill tribute speeded-up chase sequence still seems a bit of a strange decision though. Playing Yakety Sax over the top of it is just over-egging it.

Worse still, if you reorder it to allow for running time ("fuck"s/minute), it only comes in 27th at 2.4 (so one every 25 seconds).

Mind you it did have the most "fuck"s of any film between 1995 (when it was released) and 1997 (when it was beaten on both metrics by Nil by Mouth).  But even on its own release it was already beaten on frequency by both Eddie Murphy Raw and Menace to Society.

I like that page, thanks Blumf!

As you've probably guessed, I haven't seen Casino.

Seconded! Its very existence makes me happy.

It's interesting to note that the films of potty-mouthed Quentin Tarantino are quite far down the list, but I guess that's because his favourite profanities are 'motherfucker' and that other one (you know the one I mean).

Woodstock, the oldest film on the list, must've earned its seminal fuck count from the Country Joe McDonald scene alone. Which is funny.

Only watch it if you like casinos.

I hate going to casino's but I quite like a good casino film that shows all the wonder and glamour is artifice and shows the whole thing is run by crooks and your amiable protagonists are left all broken.

Casino
The Cooler
California Split
Hard Eight

All good stuff.

If it helps, you can think of it as being two 90 minute films. Watch the first one and, if you enjoyed it, watch the sequel.

Worse

Not having that. Heat is boring and doesn't even have the prospect of Joe Pesci going tonto to keep you on board.

imitationleather

That Wikipedia page is the sort of thing which makes me think maybe the internet wasn't a huge mistake for society after all.

Lol at Twin Town being number 4 in the uses/minute ranking.

I don't think I've seen Nil By Mouth, is it worth a go?

Heat is better than Casino.
it would have been if Pacino hadn't abandoned a fine acting performance during the GREAT ASS! bit.

Yes, that tickled me too.  Also slightly disturbed me in that I saw the film back when I lived in Swansea around 15 years ago, and never even noticed that it was particularly sweary!

Fry

Yeah it was quite good, bit long though and I hated Stone's haircut.

Now I want to see a list of films for 'that other one' being used. I assume a load of Tarantino, Blaxploitation, Blazing Saddles, and American History X.

It's a while since I saw it last, but if it's still as good now as it was then, then yes, it's well worth a go. It's not a genre I'm a fan of, the "lets gawk at a bunch of working class people fouling the place out" sort of picture, but Nil By Mouth is something else. It is a fucking tough watch though.

I remember the day I bought it on VHS (alongside the "Special Edition" Pink Flamingos, if memory serves), I invited my mate round to watch it with me, gabbling on about how it was one of the best films I'd ever seen and he was going to love it and he'd never seen anything like it, believe you me, and all the rest. About 90 minutes in he turned to me with a face like a hangover piss and said "I think I have to go home now."

Casino is also worth watching, I would say. If you like that sort of thing. It's fantastic.

Ah well I love bleak kitchen sinky Loach/Leigh/Consadine stuff so probably should pull my finger out and watch it.
