Technically anyone outside of Mike / Jay / Rich Evans is a guest. Mike and Jay operate the company as an LLC and pay Rich for occasional work on sets etc. Everyone else is basically a friend of them who works in the industry and doesnt get much more than a few beers for doing the shows. So if Culkin likes doing them, great.

Well not really, I wouldn't call Josh and Jack "guests." I suppose they are in the same way that Gregg Turkington is a weekly guest on On Cinema.

Yeah sure good for Culkin, but BAD FOR THE VIEWER.

DrGreggles

MaCulkin is fine by me.
I think it's good that they mix it up sometimes.

idunnosomename

I enjoyed Culkin on this again. His Bunny Ears mate was a little weird in the viewing room but I'm not complaining. It's still a uniquely good post-MST3K form of free entertainment.

Have previous Nerd Crew done the jazz hands joke thing before? Haven't seen any of them so I don't know. I understand the satire but making a joke taking the piss out of people trying to be nice to deaf people (who can't hear applause) seems a tad shiiiiiiiiiit - reactionary pricks in Australia tried that too and got roundly laughed at.
(note: If you think that is for people who think other people are 'triggered' by applause, you've giving up what you're reading)

Er... surely deaf people can see people clapping their hands? But blind people can't hear jazz hands. So if that's the reason, it seems rather badly thought out.

I always thought it was for autistic people who struggle with loud and harsh noises.

Bad Ambassador

Deaf people might just think the audience is cold.

That's what I understood the purpose to be.

I'd rather they had left that particular 'joke' out though, it can only really appeal to people who view the gesture and its use as a negative thing.

I wish they'd just cut the nerd crew thing out altogether, surely they've stretched it out as far as it can go now. Do we really need several hours of what looks like quite high effort video to point out that sycophantic podcasts and webshows are shit and insanely tedious? No!

The Nerd Crew is basically their way to placate people who want Star Wars content and commentary but taking the piss out of it at the same time

Alright, Culkin's not too bad in this Christmas one.

QDRPHNC

For background noise while I work, I picked Wheel of the Worst #6 at random. The collective, sustained meltdown at the osteoporosis dance is really something.

Space ghost

I know we were doing favourite little bits they've done earlier in the thread but I just want to highlight this as a particular favourite of mine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aomqbq5eIB0

A four minute video taking the piss out of the Ben-Hur reboot. The exaggerated smashing, Rich's incredulous reaction to the news that it's FLOPPING and finally Jay's mock fury. Perfectly done.

One of my favourites too.

Some extended universe stuff filmed around Culkin's Christmas BotW. If you wondered why he comes on with blood over him.

Also he gets the lads jabbering about Stars "War" and "Trek" on his poddy if you're into that

About time they had a thread of their own.
I can see why they're not to everyone's taste, but I've long found them one of the more consistently entertaining channels on YouTube.
Highlights include the Plinkett reviews of the Star Wars prequels and Next Gen movies https://www.youtube.com/user/RedLetterMedia/playlists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=11 , Half in the Bag's meticulous deconstruction of Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXNsT7-Lwsk and pretty much any episode of Best of the Worst where the films they watch give them something to work with (or when the Canadians pay a visit).
I also find myself missing Pre-Rec's games reviews, although they became increasingly sporadic latterly, and do hope they could be tempted into making more if the right game(s) came along.

Also, It's just nice to see older, fatter people doing well out of YouTube.

Any thoughts?

I discovered RLM on the CaB Force Awakens thread via a link to their review of the Star Wars Christmas special, i enjoyed that and started watching their other stuff.
You mentioned their 'Pre Rec' game reviews, it was there i discovered the game PlayerUnknown's Battegrounds. What a find, i was instantly hooked and Ive since spent 1000s of hours watching or playing PUBG!

This was actually pretty good, I wish the lazy frauds would bother to produce more of this kind of stuff on their own channel!!!!1

Im hoping the Ep IX review isnt out yet because Mike is dressing up as Palpy and Rich Evans is doing his classic George Lucas costume

The funniest thing they've ever done I think.

Can't wait to get in this tonight, their Spotlight episodes are uniformly superb (with the exception of Twister's Revenge... but that one improved on second viewing).

QDRPHNC

So. Wicked World. In a weird way I kind of admired it.

Famous Mortimer

I have the blu-ray right in front of me, having pre-ordered it yonks back (any other "Things" fans on here?) I'm waiting for a large enough group of cinephiles to gather before I watch it, though.

DrGreggles

I've got a copy of Things, but never made it all the way through.
Sometimes bad films are just too bad.

Hey, Punk!

I'm a big fan of RLM, I first got into them in college back in 2011 when someone showed me the Plinkett review of the Phantom Menace. The only real complaint that I have over the years is them no longer reviewing smaller movies on Half in the Bag, or at least not as much. I understand that as they've got bigger and that their income now largely comes from YouTube, they're probably chasing the algorithms more (despite their cynical aesthetic, you know this is true as they'd pretty much be reviewing obscure films otherwise).

On their politics I can definitely relate, their distate for coprporate identity pandering and their distate for woke criticism is something I share completely, I'm a full on Socialist but I hate criticism that is simply about picking out what is problematic in a film. After spending time on left twitter, where someone using a 10 second clip of someone with slightly contrary opinions in their video can get you completely disregarded, hearing these schlubs shit on tribalism is refreshing, even if I disagree with them. They definitely hate the effect of markets on films though, whenever capitalism is brought up it's to shit on how it works or to make a neutral statement.

Their wrap-up shows talk about all sorts of smaller movies, and although I don't want to go and check, I imagine it isn't hugely different between their early episodes and now. Maybe? I've certainly not noticed it.

idunnosomename

the new best of the worst black spine edition is really funny. it has culkin in it but you don't really notice him as a special celeb guest anymore, at least i dont. the bald guy isnt great I guess but whatever.

it is amazing how RLM manage to stay fresh without being revolutionary and instead sticking to quite basic formats. imo. helps that they take care with the editing I guess

DrGreggles

Watching the latest episode caused me to then check out a similar sort of channel: Good Bad or Bad Bad
A bit more celebratory of shit films, but more in depth than BOTW.
Pretty entertaining stuff.
