Looks like the next Half in the Bag is going to be Tiger King, which should be fun.

idunnosomename

I'm SO glad we got ANOTHER sequence of POOR acting preceding the Half in the Bag to fill up space

that's right jay!!!!!

jay's beard looks good btw

bgmnts

I fancy Jay a bit, will reiterate that.

The Bumlord

Mike is turning into a bearded slug, I'm quite enjoying it.

idunnosomename

best thing about covid is us getting another OHHH FFF- gag as Mike tries to steal booze

New Half in the Bag: Neil Breen's 5 Film Retrospective and Rawhead Rex

QDRPHNC

Just watched this morning... beautiful. I loved Neil's overdubbing of stuff he forget to mention at the time.

Neil on-camera: "I shot these movies while working a full time job, at nights and on weekends."

Overdubbing Neil: "... and on vacation!"

The Bumlord

Jay with that full beard and hair - I think I've turned!

Bad Ambassador

Fingers crossed they eventually do a cutaway gag where Jay I'd replaced by Chris Evans.

Famous Mortimer

Holy crap, Neil Breen's filmmaking course both exists and costs $160?

thugler

I don't actually find Breen's films that funny. There's some pretty nasty fascist sentiment in there.

Certainly wouldn't be comfortable with paying money for any of this shit anyhow.

Is it conscious though? Hard to believe the guy can think that deeply with his self awareness.

QDRPHNC

I don't think Breen is a fascist, he just thinks he knows what's best for everybody, wants to be in charge of the planet, and doesn't mind wiping out a few hundred million people who've displeased him.

Not sure I understand the difference between being aware of yourself being a fascist and not.

The difference is - in one instance, you're a fascist, what with it being an actual political movement, not just an insult thrown round on the internet; and in the other, you're a lunatic who makes terrible movies and allows every bizarre fantasy from the recesses of your brain on the screen. Almost all his movies have a love affair which starts in childhood, but I notice no-one's getting pissed at him for being a leader in the "everyone should marry their girlfriend/boyfriend from when they were 7 years old" movement.

When he starts physically assaulting socialists and stopping other people from having political meetings, I'll be more than happy to revisit my opinion. Until then, I shall carry on enjoying his wonderful movies.

idunnosomename

no one awkwardly smashes up a set like mike and jay! except now mike is extremely elderly and jay has nearly transformed fully from a twink into a bear.

This, basically. I very much doubt Breen holds a deeply considered fascist viewpoint, he's not going to write La dottrina del fascismo or anything. More that stupid and barely considered viewpoints tend to look a bit like fascist ideas. Strange that, maybe there's a link.

They tempt with their ideas of a Zaat vs Rawhead Rex vs Charles Foster Kane pharmacy-smash-down.

What other films have good room smashing action?

Deanjam

Arthur Fowler did a good smash up in Eastenders.

Looking forward to watching the Willy Wonka Re:view later tonight.

I don't know if it caught me in the right mood or what, but last night I rewatched the Wicked World BOTW Spotlight for the first time, and fuck me, it was incredibly funny. Some great one-liners from the RLM chaps.

"Bye! Sorry all you daughters killed themselves last week!"

"I can't take this it's giving me anxiety!"

"That was after slide but before swing." (Mike breaks down)

Old Nehamkin

I laughed when they were talking about Cheer Up Charlie and Mike said "it's a fine song, it just sucks".

Replies From View

Yeah I've always fast-forwarded through Cheer Up Charlie.  It's interminable.  One of those songs that by the time you get to the end of it at normal speed, someone in your family has died.

beanheadmcginty

At one point Jay says this is the only film other than Apocalypse Now that has an animal killed onscreen. What's he on about? I haven't seen Willy Wonka for years but I don't remember an animal dying. Is it a joke that went over me?

Chicken's head chopped off in the boat tunnel scene.

I'm having a bit of a Mandela effect moment here. Was there an alternative cut of the movie or something? I swear I watched it a million times as a child and have zero recollection of many of the pre-entering-the-factory scenes they are showing in this review.

It's possible (if unlikely) that the US and UK had slightly different cuts of the movie?

Which scenes in particular?  All the ones shown in the review have always been in the film for me.

Not unless I was somehow watching the same one as redlettermedia despite being in the UK.
