Your video game music inspiration observations

Ever notice something in a song and realise that a game track was definitely inspired by it?

There's lots of YouTube fodder for this but this is for your own observations. I've noticed at least one that other people haven't. This one weirds me out with how exactly it's copied, and how nobody in the world apart from me gives a shit:

Mario Kart Koopa Beach/London Boys

That is surely not a coincidence.

Super Mario Bros. Underground Theme/George Duke - Brazilian Love Affair

The Japanese version of SNES shooter Super Aleste/Space Megaforce had a track on it's BGM which is basically a New Order megamix, featuring Blue Monday, Fine Time and The Perfect Kiss. It was removed, unsurprisingly, from the Western releases.

I never had a Megadrive, but I remember being round at my cousins while they were playing a Streets Of Rage game (2 I think?) and the BGM for one of the levels was basically What Time Is Love?

This one's kinda the other way around, but Look At You by Backyard Babies nicks its chorus off of Yer Loggins' Footloose, whereas the verses sound uncannily like the Diddy Kong Racing theme.

Oh man, this is incredible.

Not my observation obviously, but Doom in/famously stole from Pantera, Metallica, and Slayer. When they were testing the game, they would listen to their favourite metal albums, and Romero has since admitted that they asked Bobby Prince to basically copy them.

There even used to be a ytmnd about all the times Doom games borrowed from metal, which someone has saved to youtube. If you can't be arsed to watch the whole video, Pantera is probably the most blatant.

Hah, pretty blatant.

FF7 - Anxious Heart and Kraftwerk - Spacelab.

Fuck me, Anxious Heart is moving.

Can't be bothered to listen to the isolated Kanye track, but this has been doing the rounds lately: https://twitter.com/everydaylouie/status/1187801802604834816

I thought I was the only person who thought this.

Nobuo Uematsu was a pretty big Elton John fan for sure, Funeral for a Friend alone always sounds to me like a weird amalgamation of Final Fantasy songs.

In the other direction, Burial sampled MGS2 a few times iirc. Various drum beat sounds and one of the main loops in Arcangel.

My Bloody Valentine - Soon  https://youtu.be/ft56il9bGMk
Streets of Rage 3 - The Poets I : https://youtu.be/6p_kyY7ZUUI
Yuzo Koshiro pinched the bassline, interestingly it kicks in at roughly the same point of both tracks, around 25 seconds in.

Sonic Chaos (Master System) - Gigapolis Zone: https://youtu.be/d3usm4etoeE
Troll 2 Mirror Dance scene: https://youtu.be/_GV0_pEjs6c
I loved Sonic Chaos when I was a kid and particularly loved the music to this level, it blew my mind to watch Troll 2 as an adult and recognise this music. It's basically the same. I think it may even be a bit of demo music on a Casio keyboard or something as I've definitely heard it somewhere else as well.

I've had this the other way around before too:

Sonic 1 (Master System) Bridge Zone (1991): https://youtu.be/qYJkol00JCE
Janet Jackson - Together Again [the chorus specifically] (1997): https://youtu.be/vfK5QhZ9u7o
Janet Jackson's producers shamelessly nicking a great hook from Sonic there.

This one bugs me(no pun intended) every time I play Hollow Knight, as it's so blatant:

Thomas Newman - Any Other Day (from American Beauty) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHxi-HSgNPc
Christopher Larkin - Reflection ("Bench" music from Hollow Knight) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3ttpyZPo7k

Fallout 3 - "Explore 7" https://youtu.be/Sm4BW3AiEAI?t=163

That bit right there, that's the theme from Get Carter isn't it?
