In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge starts off as a, well, Scrooge, but ends up more like Bob Cratchit.

Has there ever been a film where a Cratchit becomes a Scrooge? Not in the sense of an origin story for an antihero of which there are many examples, but just a standalone which starts with someone cheery and ends up fucking desolate? Asking for a wank.

The Blackadder Christmas Special is exactly this, isn't it?

Well, not a fillum, but Breaking Bad is "Mr Chips becomes Scarface" innit.

There are countless things where the main character's wholesome pal turns evil halfway through and is the overall main antagonist. Goldeneye, just to pluck a random one out of the air.

The Blackadder episode people have mentioned is exactly the kind of thing I had in mind, where it's the main character who has that arc, and there's no redemption or success for everyone. Trevelyan doesn't really start off as a wonderful person, and he's a secondary character whose death is really a victory for Bond.

So that's what I'd like to watch. Something that starts nice and ends up fucking bleak.

Hummm... really out on a limb here, but, The Truman Show?

Is The Player a bit like this? I can't really remember it well but I think Tim Robbins is more of a cunt at the end than he was at the start.

In Match Point the main character gradually becomes a massive cunt, gets away with everything and isn't sorry at the end.

No, he's a cunt from the start. It's just that by the end he's forged a deal with the person who was blackmailing him and benefited from the events.

There's a porno where uncle scrooge's ex-wife gets it on with Huey, Dewey and Louie while Donald watches.

Absorb the anus burn

Shame by Ingmar Bergman.

Max Von Sydow's traumatic war experiences turn him from a mild-mannered, insecure but good-natured violinist into a psychopath who abandons his loyal wife and murders a boy soldier for his boots.

Small Man Big Horse

Brightburn is sort of Tiny Tim ends up as Supercunt. But it's also a fairly average affair.
