I've just discovered that Martin Bashir, of Diana and Michael Jackson interview fame, released a reggae album in 2014 entitled "Bass Lion". You'll need no further background other than the fact he plays bass:

Who would live in a house like this? Only cunt-voiced TV presenter Loyd Grossman, playing punk guitar with his bloody punk band!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9D6-cRqypg

And in a similar vein, here's legendary thinker, TV critic and punk vocalist Garry Bushell doing some more punk:

Any others to add to this stirling list?

I saw Keanu Reeves' band at Glastonbury in the late 90s. Can't remember what they were called but they drew an enormous crowd, obviously, even if it was largely made up of people shouting ''Wyld Stallions!!" at them.

Edit: They were actually called Dogstar.

Macaulay Culkin has a band called The Pizza Underground that cover VU songs but change the lyrics and song titles to have a pizza theme. They cancelled their last UK tour after getting booed off stage.

Bronzy

Tim Heidecker of On Cinema fame has released several albums.

Ain't the same without Axiom and Manuel, but decent nonetheless.

Obviously there's lots of examples of ill-advised attempts at music from footballers, so let's go with an obscure one from Slaven Bilic. In the grand scheme of things, it could definitely be worse.

BlodwynPig

Saw Minnie Driver play King Tuts in Glasgow. Fantastic and she gave me a wink (backstage).

Joe Pesci's the last guy I would expect to rap to a sample1 of Blondie's Rapture.

... oh.

I saw them at T in the Park. They were quite reliant on Pearl Jam covers.

Steven Seagull was generous enough to provide us with two albums of his axemanship

Paul Martin, host of the unnecessarily aggressively titled Flog It!, was a session drummer and apparently played on albums by the Average White Band, the Quireboys and the Dogs D'Amour. But I don't know which ones because I can't be arsed to Google for more than a minute or so.

Stefan Dennis (Paul from Neighbours)

Mark Radcliffe

John McEnroe and Pat Cash

Michael Elphick's 'Gotcha' single, sounding very much like Fred West with a recording contract

The best of course is this from Danny Aiello.

Shiiiiit, that's good. Definitely playing that at my Dad's funeral. Whenever that might be.

Was a big surprise when I found out about Neil Buchanan (or Art Attack fame)'s parallel career as a metal guitarist:

Heh, yes indeed. Very strange to think he was lurking in the background of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal which influenced the likes of Metallica, Slayer et al.

QuoteQ: Tell me how you first met Johnny Depp

GH: I met him at a Halloween party in Austin [Texas].

Q: What were you dressed as?

GH: Gibby Haynes. I had puffy cheeks and a piglike nose, and I was drunk! So this guy comes up to me and goes, "Hey, man, you're Gibby, right? Man, 'Jesus Built My Hotrod' is one of my favorite songs." I was like, "Oh." I was doing that I'm really-cool kind of thing. I glance over, and I go, "Hey, aren't you . . . ?" And he says, "Yeah."

And so began the shortlived band 'P' - the soundtrack to River Phoenix's overdose.

Johnny Depp's in that Hollywood Vampires band as well isn't he, along with various actual musicians.

Played, imperceptibly, on Unloveable by Babybird. Directed the video for it too.

I'll just leave this here...

Sliding it under the cubicle door might have been more appropriate...

None too unknown here, but...

Snooker player Steve Davis now DJs and makes music as part of The Utopia Strong;
Peter Capaldi and Craig Ferguson's band The Dreamboys;
Christopher Lee's symphonic metal records;
Charlie Higson as lead singer with The Higsons;
CaB favourite Ricky Gervais in Seona Dancing.

I suppose the likes of Charles Manson and David Koresh don't really count because they wanted to be primarily known as musicians, do they?

George White

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqfvLP--4Ew Telly Savalas had a number one hit with his cover of If, but turns out fellow Bond villain Curd Jurgens not only did a German cover, but had a major hit with this lament on being sixty.

A few other German character actors followed  with similar records.
E.g. the Clown by Germany's Father Brown, Heinz Ruhmann and this number by Horst Frank, star of myriad spaghetti westerns and the Baron in CBBC's The Legend of Tim Tyler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Wf0D14we8g
