Love his proud little boy face after successfully finishing a monologue about how fab simple local food dishes are

Puts me on edge. He's affable, sure, but you sense that he's always teetering on the edge of total mental disintegration during which he'll get very emotional and start crying and saying he "can't cope".

Very upsetting to watch.

Well. His dad did chuck himself off a cliff, you know.

Cuellar

Didn't know that and I don't care.

He doesnt go on about it like the beige brigade of crocodile boars. Lineker's grandad and his war secret, fuck off.

I've been reading his Wikipedia entry now, and I'm truly fucked off by the fact that he went to a top public school but failed all his A levels, did resits at a crammer and got 2 Es, went travelling for a bit, then still got into Oxford. Boomer privelege right there.

Equivalent to my trajectory, good man

I was driving this morning and found myself daydreaming about how mad it would be if there was some Indian guy who followed Rick Stein around everywhere shouting "You bloody bastard!" at him from a distance, making it really difficult to film

So now I know two things about Rick Stein.

Emma Raducanu

It was his privileged upbringing that put me off him when reading his autobiography. I do like his little quotes of lord Byron etc. And the music at the end of his food oddesey series is positively dreamy. His recipe books are pretty safe too. Good man.

bgmnts

Posh privileged cunt who just goes around France getting pissed it seems.

Probably ten a penny in the south of england.

"I just love the look of pepper on lardons; I don't know why."

Cuellar

I long for the day when chefs just fuck off back into kitchens and never appear on television again.

"Food is very serious business, it requires lots of talking and tasting and going mmm at, and if you get it wrong you ARE A CUNT. FUCK YOU"

Honestly who cares about food. It's just something that happens. If I could choose one bodily process to never have to go through again, it would eating. Having to think about food, choose the food, cook the food, eat the food - christ, make it stop.

touchingcloth

Don't forget shitting the food.

BlodwynPig

He's on now, going on about French tarts in his gentle but convivial manner

Cuellar

bgmnts

French food is literally just any meat you can get knock up and a shit ton of wine isn't it?

They fucking going on like they invented food when its a naff carnivore jizzfest.

Norton Canes

Just the eight cheese dishes there mate steady

touchingcloth

QuoteThis is like Fort Knox, but ten times better!

Rick's summation of a trip to a comte cheese factory.

Shitting is worse.

Food is simple. Yes or No. 'Oh that's disgusting I would never eat calf's brain' Take a nibble. 'Oh well actually that's alright.'
Apart from Stein, Bourdain and Ramsay who probably wanted to be something else -writer, rock star, porn star respectively- a tv chef is just a humble servant for capitalism like the rest of us. The non-chefs who obsess about food out of all the things to spend your time on. I can understand food as notalgia or as piece of your culture. But as some sort of mode for discovery jesus you have to be some dullard. Shit for cunts.

It always surprises me when someone has a meh attitude towards food. Putting delicious food in your gob is one of the best things in life, and it's as tragic to me to hear that someone has never had a rapturous experience with a meal or a snack as if I'd heard that they could never achieve orgasm. It's fucking fantastic, worth every inch on your waist and year off your life.

bgmnts

Aye but chippy chips are delicious.

I think the experience of the meal is more important than the quality of the meal itself. In the end it's just shit.

touchingcloth

What makes up the experience then? The crockery?

The people you're with, the setting etc which I can understand if you're doing a show on the Almafi coast and you think Limoncello is a fucking great drink.

Partly that, but also good food in desolate surroundings alone is a fine thing. Pizza kebap burger.
